“I have spent many years in love with dreamy things like color, beauty, and the way the past becomes softened over time and gets fuzzy edges. Using color and aesthetics I hope to investigate the feelings that emerge when looking at metaphors and memories. I paint to create healing and wholeness — to tell a story and have it resonate. My desire is to express what I feel, using acrylic on canvas, in the hope that someone else can feel the same wholeness or sense that they are not alone.” – Dinah Rau

Time.Light.Motion. I was tear-smeared-cheeks-deep into my first heartbreak when a mechanic told me my problem was likely timing. I thought that could be applied to more than just my car. If I'd been born sooner or later, had major life events happen at another time, how different would my life be, would I be? In a college photo class I fell in love with the magic of long-exposures capturing light. A natural night owl, I’m awake when light and dark make the world look different. One night, feeling frustrated with how my disability had changed my life, I returned to that magic and this photography series was born. With my cameras and the light and dark around me I capture the baffling forces of motion and time itself. Born from my disability and sleep disorder, pieces of me that put me out of step with other people, the series has grown with me as I have grown stronger in my embrace of myself. I know I likely wouldn’t have this series, not the way it is, without those parts of me.
