Auburn at Play Fall 2020 Recreation

Upcoming programs through Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation 

Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation continues to serve the community with opportunities and experiences that are COVID adapted. Options including offerings for youth programs and camps, a host of fitness and sport options for youth and adults, and a variety of community special events and recreational fun.

The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department is offering activities that help youth develop social, emotional, physical, and cognitive abilities as well as expanded learning opportunities. programming allowable under childcare guidance through the WA. State Department of Health guidelines. We will continue to monitor changes in guidelines and adapt to any changes as needed.

Based on the current guidelines, here is what we are doing to ensure health and safety in our programs: 

  • Curbside check-in and health screenings mean only program participants and staff are in our building.
    Staff will walk youth participants to their assigned program space.
  • Masks are worn by staff and participants at all times. Both indoors and outdoors.
  • Increased cleaning and sanitizing
  • Designated space and facilities for each program

Parkour is an excellent way for kids to work off energy, build motor skills, practice problem solving and team work and have a blast!

GIRLS ON THE RUN

Girls on the Run encourages girls in grades 3-5 in the development of self-respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic, interactive lessons as well as through running games, all of which culminates in a celebratory 5k run.

KIDS YOGA

Kids Yoga is a weekly exploration of yoga movement, meditation, art, storytelling, mindfulness games and more! This class offers a safe space for nourishing community connection and lots of joy.

KIDS DIG IT!

Join us in the garden for fun-filled afternoons exploring all it has to offer. In this program we educate and empower children to make conscious food choices through hands-on garden activities. We will learn about gardening, engage in fun activities, grow our own food, and taste the fruits (and vegetables) of our labor! Participants in this class have first priority registration for the summer session.

YOUTH STEM

  • Game Making From ScratchDo you want to learn to code by making games? In this class, you’ll get to build a series of fun, hands-on games that you can share with your friends and family! We’ll use a block programming language called Scratch to design, create and play our very own games! Newcomers and returning students welcome -- we'll make sure to find a project that challenges and excites you.

  • Junior Rocket EngineersSpace! Rockets! In this class, We will use computer simulations and hands-on projects to help us explore the depths of space! We will even build and launch our own model rockets.

THEATER/MUSIC

Musical Theater Vocal Workshop: An 8-week course Based on the Broadway era from the 1920s to the present, our theater Vocal Course is sure to capture the heart of anyone interested in the performing arts. In this course, students learn vocal technique and fundamentals as well as song selection derived from various Broadway styles. The instructor leads students through proper vocal warm, up pitch control and proper breathing. This is followed Selecting a song to learn, rehearse and perform at the end of the course via a live zoom concert! Fun for the whole family to watch.

Mini Makers Spring Break Camp
Are you looking for something fun to do during your upcoming Spring Break?  Check out our Mini Makers Camp, which encourages young people to engage in creative STEAM projects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) along with fun Arts & Crafts, and more recreation activities during spring break. Main camp activities run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Extended care available from 8-9 a.m. and 4-5 p.m. Drop-Off and Pick-Up curbside at the Auburn Community & Event Center.

Skyhawks Multi-Sport Camp: Our multi-sport camp is designed to introduce athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting. For this program we combine dodgeball, basketball & soccer into one fun-filled week. Athletes will learn the rules and essential skills of each sport along with vital life lessons such as respect and teamwork. Campers should bring daily a sack lunch, snacks, sunscreen and water bottle. Main camp activities run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Extended care available from 8-9 a.m. and 4-5 p.m. For ½ day camp extended care only available 8-9 a.m. Fee includes extended care.

TEEN YOGA

Teen Yoga offers powerful tools to help teens get grounded and feel safe in their bodies during these shifting times. During this class we will journey through gentle yoga movement, restorative yoga postures and guided meditation. This is a space for nourishing community connection and relaxation.

TEEN FUTSOL

Teen Futsol will include weekly inner-program games for a full season tournament. Teams of 5 will play 4-on-4 at the Mod- Soccer/Futsol field at Brannan Park. 20 minute games allow each team to play 2 games per session with a warm up.

SPORT CLASSES

Skyhawks provides a wide variety of fun, safe and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports and life, such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. The programs are designed to give each child a positive introduction into sports while fostering a lifelong love for an active, healthy lifestyle. Our patient and knowledgeable staff use a variety of skill-building games and activities to give each athlete a complete understanding and overview of the sport. This class will take place inside gym.

Participants will be placed in groups (by age) of no more than 6 participants per group and no co-mingling of kids in other groups. There will be a max of 12 participants per age group per session. Participants will also be required to wear a face-mask at all times.

Youth Baseball & Fastpitch

Coaches are volunteers, most are parents of participants.  Coaches will determined practice times based on their availability between 4:30-8:30 pm.  $10 early bird discount if registered by May 5.  Email reminders will be sent out 7-10 days prior with specifics on time, place and other information.  All games and practices will be on the days specified below.  3rd Grade & Older teams may be combined with Sumner/Bonney Lake league.

Track and Field

This is a recreational track program for all children grades 1-8. The purpose of this program is to teach young boys and girls track and field fundamentals in a fun-filled atmosphere. Sportsmanship, conditioning, leadership, and confidence are reinforced. Participants will compete in various track meets in June and July. Some at home and some at neighboring cities.  Practices are Monday (Auburn High) or Tuesday (Auburn Riverside) or Wednesday (Auburn Mountainview) and meets are on Thursdays. You chose the practice day, but space is limited.  T-shirt uniforms will be provided for team participants if registered by the early registration deadline Wednesday, May 5.  $10 early bird discount if registered by May 5.  All facilities are what we have historically used but are still waiting on confirmation from Auburn School District.

Community Garden - now accepting registrations
The City of Auburn has two community gardens that offer approximately 200 sq ft of space per garden plot.  Gardening season is April-October, water is provided onsite. Tools, work, seeds, and plants provided are provided by the individual renting the garden plot. If interested, please submit garden plot application form.

The family-friendly fun run has both an in-person or virtual option on Saturday, May 22. In-person options have staggered start times from 9am-12pm and with the virtual option, you can choose the day, the time and the location of your participation!
