SCULPTURE OF THE WEEK

Tobu Bo

Title: "Tobu Bo"
Artist: Tom Askman and Lea Anne Lake
Medium: Steel, copper, aluminum

Inspired by the nearby watershed to downtown Auburn, Spokane artists Tom Askman and Lea Anne Lake created five dragonfly sculptures that are scattered along W Main Street between the Burlington Northern and Union Pacific Railroads. In honor of the Japanese Americans from the Auburn Valley who were interned during World War II, Askman and Lake named the artwork, "Tobu Bo," the Japanese phrase used for dragonfly, which literally translates, "flying pole."

VIRTUAL ART GALLERY

Leah Hugon

The City of Auburn Virtual Galleries is now pleased to feature the artwork of Leah Hugon, selected for and now on display at the City Hall Gallery. Hugon creates mixed media work with images of people from her community with the intention of implying themes of shared human experience while exploring individuals in meaningful ways. Her mixed media artmaking “combines traditional painting, drawing, embroidery, and etching, with industrial materials, digital media and 3D printing.” The artist blends old and new techniques in hopes that her work might “build bridges between fine art and contemporary culture, while encouraging self-awareness and community connection.”

For more information about the artist, please visit their website.
