Makers Space


Auburn's Maker Space is located within the new Auburn Community & Event Center, located at 910 9th Street SE in Les Gove Park.

Equipment within the space includes: Epilog Helix Laser Printer, MakerBot Replicator 3D Printer, FormLabs Form 2 Resin 3D Printer, Brother Sewing and Embroidery Machine, Silhouette Cutter, Xbox Kinnect Scanner and a variety of hand tools.

YOUNG INVENTORS CLUB

February Feature:
LEGO Robotics

Young Inventors

February 4- Build!
Students will break up into teams to build robots- learning about robotics, engineering, and model building.

February 11- Program!
We’ll learn to program our bots, including custom-built programs and pre-designed ones, to make the most of different robots’ capabilities.

February 18- Compete!
Each team will design and build a cardboard obstacle course that all robots will compete on- including their own!  This session will involve strategy, experimentation, and group problem solving.  The best bot (for programming) will take the prize!

February 25- Rebuild! 
We’ll delve into the many fan  models online to tear apart and rebuild our bots into ever cooler models, and have fun programming them to do new stuff!

February Feature:
3D Design & Printing

3D Printer

February 2- Beginning 3D Design for 3D Printing Part 1
Introduction to the principles of 3D printers, how they work, how to design for them, and the free 3D design software to start making models.  Class participants will receive a 3D printed token as proof of their new skill!

February 9- Beginning 3D Design for 3D Printing Part 2
We’ll walk through designing your first simple project for 3D printing, a personalized name plate, as you learn the basics of 1-2-3D Design.

February 16- Intermediate 3D Design for 3D Printing Part 1
This class will introduce another piece of design software used to sculpt.  Participants will “re-mix” a found design or simple model of their own, and walk away with a small statuette.

February 23- Intermediate 3D Design for 3D Printing Part 2
Using a combination of software, class participants will create their own design, with the guidance and advice of the instructor.  At the end of the class, or within the next 48 hours, class participants can print their own models!

February 11- Leather Wallets/Coin Purses
Create a wallet or coin purse from scratch using a combination of laser and traditional leather working techniques.  The laser can cut, score, engrave and hole punch leather templates, and we will hand stitch, rivet and finish our projects.

February 25- Coasters
This is a great intro class for the laser.  We will be using Inkscape to design and personalize a set of laser engraved coasters for your home.

February 28- Laser Etch Denim 
Bring a denim garment or use one of the patches we provide and check out this awesome technique  to create contrasting designs on classic denim.  This is a great laser project for beginners

OTHER CLASSES

  • February 14- Vinyl Stickers: The Silhouette vinyl cutter is a great first MakerSpace experience! Pre-select up to two graphics or photos that you would like converted into personalized vinyl stickers for our home or car. Ages 11 & up, $25/$32.

  • Adult and Seniors: Beginning Laser Cutting- Learn how to design and cut projects using the laser cutter in the MakerSpace during this 4-week course. You will be guided through the basics of design on the computer, then cutting and etching them with the laser. 4 week session: Tuesdays, February 14-March 7, Ages 21 & up, Fee: $60 |Senior Fee: $48
