On September 18, 2023, Sean Briscoe officially joined the South Burlington Police Department as deputy chief. Mr. Briscoe’s swearing-in ceremony was conducted by City Clerk Holly Rees, following an introduction and remarks by City Manager Jessie Baker and Chief Shawn Burke.
Deputy Chief Briscoe joins the City with over 25 years of law enforcement experience. He served the City of Saratoga Springs, NY as a patrol officer, sergeant, and lieutenant and comes with glowing recommendations. In these roles he served Saratoga Springs as the patrol division commander, community outreach coordinator, homeless outreach coordinator and was a founding member of the Saratoga Coalition to End Homelessness, liaison to the school district, accreditation program manager, and he created a program for military members approaching active deployment. He has a BA in criminal justice and organizational law enforcement leadership and is a MA candidate in human resources.
Prior to joining the City, Deputy Chief Briscoe briefly worked in the private sector. Police Chief Shawn Burke noted, “Deputy Chief Briscoe is returning to policing at a time when many officers are fleeing the profession. Chief Briscoe’s commitment to police with both empathy and courage compliments how our department provides service. Chief Briscoe brings extensive experience in police operations, leadership development, and bridging the gaps with those facing unmet social service needs at an opportune time for South Burlington.”
“After a nationwide search and comprehensive interview process that included community partners, members of the media, Federal and State government partners, and City staff, Deputy Chief Briscoe rose to the top of the candidate pool. Under Chief Burke’s exemplary leadership, we know Deputy Chief Briscoe’s skill set will add great value to our team and the community at large,” said City Manager Jessie Baker. “When you see him out and about, say hi!”
