City Plan 2024: Full Draft and Public Feedback

The Planning Commission will be publishing the full draft of City Plan 2024 by Friday, July 7. We welcome written public feedback on anything in the draft Plan through early August. The Planning Commission will also hold at least one public listening session (in-person at City Hall and virtually) in late July for anyone to come provide feedback on the draft Plan. Further details will be posted to the City Plan 2024 website, in the Other Paper, and in upcoming City News.

SB Fire - Summer Water Rescue Training 2023

The City of South Burlington is home to 13.1 square miles of water including part of the Winooski River and Lake Champlain. The area of lake covered by SBFD stretches from the shoreline of Red Rocks Park, out to the New York State Line and includes Juniper Island.

Wastewater News

Monica Braeger and Danny Whitaker have been working for the City of South Burlington for a little over 2 years now.  We are proud to announce that they have both recently completed their apprenticeships to become Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators.  South Burlington has two wastewater treatment facilities: Airport Parkway is a 3.3 MGD (Million Gallons per Day) system and Bartlett Bay is a 1.25 MGD system. Monica and Danny work at both plants.  Congratulations!

Chittenden County Regional Partners Relaunch Eco-Friendly Bikeshare System

The Chittenden Area Transportation Management Association (aka CATMA) and Bird, a leader in environmentally friendly electric transportation, are teaming up to bring a shared electric assist bike system to the region. As part of a longstanding commitment to expand affordable, sustainable transportation choices, CATMA along with the cities of Burlington, South Burlington and Winooski, and its institutional partners at the University of Vermont (UVM), Champlain College and the UVM Medical Center, are thrilled to have the Bird bikeshare system in the community.

Property Fraud Alert

In an effort to reduce the risk of property fraud, South Burlington residents can now register to be notified by email whenever a document is filed in the South Burlington Clerk’s office.

Why do I need to register?  With property fraud happening across the country, this helps give some peace of mind that if a document (sale of house, lien, mortgage, etc.) is filed, you will be notified, by email with the recording information. This is a free service that simply alerts you when a document is filed with the City Clerk’s office that matches the information entered into the registry.

Science Project in The Manager's Office

What started out as some pretty peonies in a vase, turned into a little science project in the City Manager's office.  For a few weeks now we had some very small caterpillars that grew and grew and just two days ago, we now have two chrysalises.  According to google, we will be waiting for 8-12 days to see what magic is inside.    Oh how fun!

South Burlington School District Updates

Facilities Construction

The existing trailers were removed from Orchard School and tree-cutting started in order to make room for the incoming Zero Energy Modular (ZEM) units. Installation will begin in the coming weeks at both Orchard and Rick Marcotte and construction will continue through the summer and into the fall.

South Burlington Food Shelf  - Donations Needed! The South Burlington Food Shelf Is in need of donations.  Want to help?

Located at 356 Dorset Street / South Burlington, VT 05403 - southburlingtonfoodshelf.org (802) 858-5267 / southburlingtonfoodshelf@gmail.com Hours: Thursday 9:30 – 11:30 AM (Donations Only) / Thursday 4 – 6 PM / Friday 8 – 10 AM / Saturday 8 – 10 AM

We accept donations anytime we are open plus 9:30am to 11:30am on Thursdays.  Or you can drop off any dry donations in the red bin in the City Hall Lobby, located in front of the Library door.

Green Mountain Transit to Resume Urban Fare Collection on January 2, 2024

Green Mountain Transit (GMT) will resume fare collection on January 2, 2024, on Chittenden County and LINK Express routes. Fare collection was originally scheduled to restart on July 1, 2023, but additional state support will allow GMT to make fare infrastructure improvements before resuming fares.

What happens at the Library every June? The Summer Reading Program! This year's program runs June 17-August 10 with the theme All Together Now!

Read books with pages, read them online, listen through Libby, ask someone to read to you...it all counts towards raffle tickets. So does program attendance and checking out a pile of books. Prizes for kids in K-grade 8 are on display in the Marabella KidSpace. Kids register now at the children's desk. Stop at the desk on the second floor for information about Teen and Adult reading incentives.

SB Nite Out has become one of our most anticipated community events. In its 7th year, friends, family, and neighbors spend evenings in the park - listening to live music, enjoying different cuisines. Held on Thursday evenings, in late-June, July & August, you will find some of the best food trucks and local bands. This year's lineup is sure to be a fun one. Don't miss it! Dates & Bands

Turf Time

Because last summer’s TURF TIME event was so well received, we have secured the SBHS Turf for Saturday July 15^th.

We are inviting all young families to come out for a fun morning of play from 9-11 am.  We’ll supply the music and bring a bunch of our equipment and assorted lawn games for families to use.  The Portable Mini Golf Company will join us once again offering free mini golf.  The morning will wind down with a Tykes Scramble (75 yd Fun Run) at 10:45. 

Registration is NOT required.
