Congratulations to our New Recruits!

We are proud to share that Officers Amstein, Blauvelt, and Moore graduated from the Vermont Police Academy last Friday. This critical mass of officers will soon embark on their FTO journey –  the final leg of the process to become South Burlington Police Officers.

SB Fire In Training - Last Week!

Day 1 as an all-hazards department, our Fire Crew must be prepared for all emergencies. Shift 3 spent the majority of the day training on vehicle stabilization. They train to stabilize a vehicle, regardless of the situation it is found in, hence the vehicle that is currently upside down in our parking area.Over the next few weeks, you’ll also see them out in Shelburne Bay training on water rescue and boat operations.

On Day 2 of extrication training Shift 1 turned this Honda Accord into a convertible with a “raised dash” to simulate freeing an operator’s legs.

Day 3 - Shift 3 wrapped up vehicle extrication training by thoroughly dismantling this Nissan SUV.

Extrication is all about removing the vehicle from around the victim. To do this we need to understand the anatomy of the vehicle and where we can cut, pry, push and pull.

Property Fraud Alert

In an effort to reduce the risk of property fraud, South Burlington residents can now register to be notified by email whenever a document is filed in the South Burlington Clerk’s office.

Why do I need to register?  With property fraud happening across the country, this helps give some peace of mind that if a document (sale of house, lien, mortgage, etc.) is filed, you will be notified, by email with the recording information. This is a free service that simply alerts you when a document is filed with the City Clerk’s office that matches the information entered into the registry.

NOTICE - Change in Assessed Value of Real Estate to Taxpayers as of June 6, 2023

For properties that have a change in value this year, property owners will receive a notice sharing this information.  If you would like to contest the value, you can appeal your valuation. Appeals need to be in writing.  An email requesting a hearing may be sent to Martha at mlyons@southburlingtonvt.gov. Please include your name, address of the property you are appealing and the reason why you are appealing. Grievance hearings for the year 2023 will be held by appointment, email, or telephone at City Hall – Office of the Assessor, 180 Market Street, S Burlington VT 05403.   Property valuation appeal hearings will close on June 21, 2023, at 4:00 p.m.

Bear Coexistence PSA from Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department

A Fed Bear is a Dead Bear

People often encourage bears to come out of the forest by providing food without realizing it. When bears become used to these food sources and have frequent contact with humans they become more dependent on human foods and less wary. This is bad news for the bears. This puts bears at increased risk to vehicle collisions and of being killed in defense of property.

South Burlington Food Shelf  - Donations Needed! The South Burlington Food Shelf Is in need of donations.  Want to help?

Located at 356 Dorset Street / South Burlington, VT 05403 - southburlingtonfoodshelf.org (802) 858-5267 / southburlingtonfoodshelf@gmail.com Hours: Thursday 9:30 – 11:30 AM (Donations Only) / Thursday 4 – 6 PM / Friday 8 – 10 AM / Saturday 8 – 10 AM

We accept donations anytime we are open plus 9:30am to 11:30am on Thursdays.  Or you can drop off any dry donations in the red bin in the City Hall Lobby, located in front of the Library door.

Green Mountain Transit to Resume Urban Fare Collection on January 2, 2024

Green Mountain Transit (GMT) will resume fare collection on January 2, 2024, on Chittenden County and LINK Express routes. Fare collection was originally scheduled to restart on July 1, 2023, but additional state support will allow GMT to make fare infrastructure improvements before resuming fares.

The Summer Reading Program! 

What happens at the Library every June? The Summer Reading Program! This year's program runs June 17-August 10 with the theme All Together Now!

Read books with pages, read them online, listen through Libby, ask someone to read to you...it all counts towards raffle tickets. So does program attendance and checking out a pile of books. Prizes for kids in K-grade 8 are on display in the Marabella KidSpace. Kids register now at the children's desk. Stop at the desk on the second floor for information about Teen and Adult reading incentives.

Camp Out

June 24-25 | 5 pm-9 am | Veterans Memorial Park

Whether you’re a seasoned camper or want to try camping for the first time! We would like to have you and your family join us for an overnight at Veterans Memorial Park!

Get ready to kick off National Parks & Recreation Month by getting OUT and joining us for our 4th Annual SB Community Campout Event. Thousands of people across the nation will gather in their backyards, neighborhoods, communities and parks to take part in an annual event that provides a fun-filled evening for all generations to get outside and connect with nature. Set up camp, play family games, have a campfire to roast those marshmallows and enjoy a Movie in the Park! We'll not only tire the kids out, but the parents too!
