In Observance of Labor Day

Public Library, City Hall & Senior Center will be closed on Monday, September 5th

Offices will reopen on Tuesday, September 6th at their regularly scheduled times.

Fire Chief Steven Locke Meets With Federal Officials

This week Fire Chief Steven Locke is attending the International Association of Fire Chief’s annual Fire-Rescue International Conference.  As part of his attendance, he had the opportunity to represent the City of South Burlington in a meeting with the US Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, and the US Fire Administrator, Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell. 

Council Considers Ordinance Regulating Heating and Domestic Water Systems

The South Burlington City Council considers an ordinance to regulate heating and domestic water systems in new construction

At the recommendation of the City’s Climate Action Plan Task Force, the City Council is considering adopting an ordinance to regulate heating and domestic water systems in new construction. 

New Curator for the Public Gallery

In July, the South Burlington Public Art Committee appointed Jessica Manley to be the new Curator for the Public Gallery at 180 Market Street.  Jessica comes to the city with years of curatorial experience throughout the region.  

You are invited!  East-West Crossing Design Workshop | August 31

Join the design team on August 31 at 6:30 PM at City Hall, 180 Market Street (open house at 5:30 PM) to learn about and discuss the design options.  Three alternative designs will be presented that enable people to walk and bike across I-89 at Exit 14.  The three different East-West Crossing bridge concepts include connections to Williston Road, Quarry Hill and the University Mall.

Thanks to everyone who voted in this past August 9^th State Primary Election.  This election was different for us in many ways with redistricting and obtaining a new shared district. With the census taking place in 2020 and South Burlington’s population increasing over the last 10 years, meant that we gained a new shared district, but it also meant that our district boundary lines changed. 

Stormwater Project - Set To Begin August 29th

Our Spear Street stormwater project at Burlington Country Club is scheduled to begin construction on August 29th and last until Thanksgiving.

South Burlington Wastewater Receives National Award!

The South Burlington Wastewater Facilities have received the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) Peak Performance Gold Award 2021!  

Second Alarm Fire Damages Apartment Building

On Monday, August 22^nd @ approximately 16:18 hours, the South Burlington Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a building fire @ # 42 Airport Rd.

South Burlington Firefighters responded with all on duty personnel, with the first due Engine arriving within 3 minutes of the 911 call. Firefighters were faced with heavy fire conditions showing from 2 floors of a 2-story, wood-frame 6-unit apartment building. 

Construction/Road Work Updates

Projects underway, completed or getting ready to begin

• Szymanski Park -  Courts project complete and fully playable - enjoy!

• Site work has started at the Vet Memorial new bathroom site and will continue through fall.  Bathrooms are still available through the Fall.

• Work to pave Dorset Street between Garden Street and Aspen Drive will begin next week. Work in advance of paving will start on Monday (8/29) and extend through Friday (9/2). The road may be reduced to a single lane at times. Milling of the existing pavement is tentatively scheduled to take place starting on 9/6 and last two or three days. During this time there will be impacts to traffic and delays are expected. Final paving will occur in late September.

Fall Competition Cheer

Is your child interested in cheerleading this fall? This program is for grades 5th-8th in South Burlington that competes in a competition in October. We practice 2-3 times a week to prepare for a 2 minute routine with stunting, dancing, jumps and gymnastics. No experience is needed. Coached by Nicole Downey.

Parisi Speed School is a sports performance training system that was developed specifically for the developing athlete. Our Certified Performance Coaches strive to empower America's youth through fitness and good health, performance, and confidence. Each session is designed to include injury prevention, speed training, and total body strength in a safe and effective environment that is also competitive and fun!

SoBu Nite Out Thursday Night Summer Series Started In July

Thursdays in July, August and September | 5-8 pm | Veterans Memorial Park

Who's ready for another summer of great food and great music? WE ARE!

Thursday nights join us at Veterans Memorial Park to indulge in some of the best food trucks in Vermont. We also have some amazing bands playing this year, see the schedule below. Bring the kids, friends, neighbors, and even the dog (on leash please).  Walking or Biking to this event is encouraged. 

Check out the District's Electric Bus that will be on display at SoBu Nite Out August 25!  Transportation will not be provided from the School to the Park.  Please plan accordingly.

As part of our Library of Things, the Library has a brand-new Orion StarBlast Telescope available for checkout! Includes: telescope with front dust covers, eyepiece with dust cover, finder scope, star finder, red accessory pack with headlamp, moon map, instruction manual. The telescope may be checked out for up to 3 days and is not renewable.
