 Hello South Burlington,
We, like municipalities across the country, currently face a transformational opportunity to invest American Rescue Plan Act funding to build community resiliency as we emerge from the pandemic.
The City received $5.6 million in Federal economic relief funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021. These funds were awarded to:
- Fight the pandemic and support families and businesses struggling with the impacts
- Maintain public services
- Build a strong, resilient, and equitable recovery
To date, we have allocated $2.6 million of these funds for capital needs in public safety, improving cyber security, investing in affordable housing development, and returning the City’s workforce. With a deadline to allocate the remaining $3 million by the end of 2024 and spend by 2026, we want to hear your thoughts on how best to use these funds to transform our community. Here is the link to the survey: www.surveymonkey.com/r/ARPAInput.
Through this survey, please share your ideas by August 26th. The City Council will review these ideas and this data at their September 6, 2022 Council meeting.
As always, if you have other questions or ideas to share, please feel free to reach out to me at jbaker@southburlingtonvt.gov or at (802) 846-4100.
My best,
Jessie
In observance of Bennington Battle Day
CITY OFFICES, LIBRARY AND SENIOR CENTER WILL BE CLOSED TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2022
Offices will reopen on Wednesday, August 17 at their regularly scheduled times.
The Battle of Bennington, (August 16, 1777), in the American Revolution, was a victory by American militiamen defending colonial military stores in Bennington, Vermont, against a British raiding party. The battle took place in New York, but is so named because the British were headed for a cache of weapons and munitions stored where the Bennington Battle Monument now stands This small battle, which could arguably be noted as one of the most important in the war.
