Message from the City Manager
Hi Team,
First and foremost, a sincere thank you to all of you who worked so tirelessly in these past weeks, months, and years to make our move a reality and then quickly turn around and make the Grand Opening a resounding success! From community engagement to permitting, design and construction to financing, and IT to public safety, many of you worked tirelessly and with good cheer to get us to full operations this week. Thank you. It was wonderful to see so many community members here at the opening, enjoying their new facilities. I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with many of them – all of whom sung your praises. Thank you for making us all look good.
And, as we spend our first weeks in this new space – and our colleagues in other locations come to do business here – let us remember that our residents and businesses have generously supported this facility for us. Let’s make sure we show our thanks by doing the good work we each do every day and doing so with excellent customer service in mind.
With our new open office concept environment, Andrew and I want to reinforce that we both still have an “open door” policy. In fact, we have no doors at all! We do, however, have great small huddle rooms in which to talk with you – and we would welcome that opportunity. If you have ideas, questions, or comments for us please feel free to stop by the third floor and say hello!
Thank you for all you are doing for the residents and businesses of South Burlington.

Robert Cote (Lead Custodial Specialist), who joined our team in June, ensured that the building was in tip-top shape for the event. Thanks, Robert!
Greg Yandow (Director of Physical Plant) was instrumental in focusing on the details, as we worked to open the building. Thanks, Greg!
At the event, project manager Ilona Blanchard (Community Development Director) was gifted a painting of 180 Market Street—painted by a family friend.

Opening our new government center has included the work and collaboration of many of our employees, as well as outside partners. As is customary for a new building, recognition for the leadership and primary partners was installed in the lobby of City Hall.
Special recognition is given to Ilona Blanchard and Justin Rabidoux who managed the project and brought the building to completion. A HUGE project that will benefit the community for decades to come. Thank you!

Safety Tips - City Hall Staff
When leaving the building (180 Market Street) after hours, please make sure that the door closes behind you. This is important after 7 pm on the main hallway front and rear doors.
Rear doors, have a tendency to not close and lock properly do to negative pressure. We are still addressing this issue. As to the front door, we think we have it fixed as of yesterday late afternoon.
Reminder that City Hall closes at 4:30 pm and all doors at 180 Market St will need to be pushed or pulled tight when exiting the building. The only doors that will remain open after 4:30 pm will be the front sliding doors and the back door by the Auditorium.

Welcome to Our Team!
Lauren Drasler - Recreation Specialist
Get to now Lauren....
Where did you grow up? Springfield, Vermont
Favorite part of working with children/youth: My favorite part of working with kids is their ability to embrace every aspect of themselves and their unique perspectives. I think those qualities are really special, and it’s awesome to be able to experience them every day.
Hobbies/what do you like to do outside of work: When I’m not working, most of my time is spent with my friends or my cat, Butters. During the summer, I love to be outside and I’ve recently become interested in kayaking. I ski in the winter and I love to dance as well.
Professional experience and education: I graduated from UVM in 2014 with a BS in Animal Science. This past year, I completed the Teacher Apprenticeship Program at Champlain College and have my teaching license in middle level English and science. Prior to my work at Champlain College, I completed two years of AmeriCorps service here in Vermont.

Rebecca Isham - Senior/Adult Recreation Specialist
I am very excited about this new adventure with the South Burlington Recreation and Parks Department as the Senior/Adult Recreation Specialist. In this role, I look forward to creating opportunities for the senior/adult community of South Burlington to have fun, be active and be social. I look forward to meeting and building relationships with the residents of the community. Before taking on this new journey, I have worked at the UVM Home Health and Hospice as a Team Assistant/Scheduler, supporting the visiting staff to provide care to Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties. When I am not working, I like to garden, craft in various ways and spend time with my three cats, as well as work on my business administration degree. If you see me, say hi and introduce yourself as I am excited to meet you all.
