Holiday Vaccine Shipping Schedule
Vaccine deliveries for November 2026 will be held on November 3, 11, and 25-27. Vaccine deliveries will be held December 24-25, 2026 and January 1, 2027. Please plan accordingly.
RSV Season
October 1, 2026 marked the traditional resumption of RSV preventive antibody administration for eligible infants. Please remind and recall eligible infants born in late spring and summer. Providers need to immunize all infants less than age 8 months born in late spring or summer who were not protected from RSV disease through maternal vaccination during pregnancy or through administration of a dose of nirsevimab or clesrovimab at birth. All but high-risk infants age out of eligibility for RSV preventive antibody administration at age 8 months. Infants at high risk are eligible for antibody administration for protection through their second RSV season when age 8 months through 19 months. Immunization before they age out of eligibility will ensure their protection through the coming RSV season.

Print Temperature Logs for Record Retention
Reporting temperatures in VOMS does not replace the official printed/digital data logger reports. Providers who receive vaccine from the Division of Immunization must retain all vaccine temperature logs/Digital Data Logger (DDL) files/reports for a minimum of 3 years.
Cooler Returns
McKesson has transitioned the UPS Auto-Pickup process for EcoFlex cooler returns into full production.
How the Process Works
-
Automatic Pickup Scheduling: UPS will automatically schedule a pickup for empty EcoFlex coolers within 1–2 business days after delivery. Providers no longer need to call or initiate a manual pickup request online.
-
Standard Return Labels Included: Coolers will continue to arrive with standard return shipping labels inside the box. Providers are welcome to use these labels to send coolers back through standard shipping channels if they prefer not to wait for the scheduled UPS auto-pickup.
Key Operational Details
-
Vaccine Product Removal: Providers must ensure that all vaccine products have been thoroughly unpacked and transferred to appropriate storage prior to returning the cooler. In addition, temperature monitors should be removed and disposed of as per standard practice.
-
Exceptions: All locations currently eligible for cooler returns via the UPS label will be part of the auto pickup process. Locations where the UPS label process is not currently available and an alternate process is in place will continue to follow their current cooler return procedures.
-
Pickup Reattempts: If UPS is unable to complete the initial pickup, up to three automatic reattempts will be made.
-
Missed Pickups & Escalations: If the cooler has not been collected after three reattempts, please contact McKesson Customer Service directly for support or return the shipper using the UPS label included.
What Does Not Vaccinating Cost?
Emory University’s VaxImpactMap.org is an interactive tool projecting the health and economic costs of declining childhood vaccination across all 50 states. The tool models six vaccine-preventable diseases: rotavirus, pertussis, invasive pneumococcal disease, varicella, invasive Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), and RSV-associated disease in infants. Results are expressed as cases, hospitalizations, deaths, and healthcare and productivity costs.

Immunization Quality Improvement Program (IQIP) Corner
Did you know that there is an IQIP Alternate Quality Initiative (QI) framework? It is a alternative framework that healthcare providers can use to fulfill the quality improvement requirements of the CDC's Immunization Quality Improvement for Providers (IQIP) program.
If your practice is working on a project to improve immunization rates you might be able to use current initiatives to streamline CDC's IQIP process. Please reach out to Stacy Leman, our IQIP coordinator at Stacy.Leman@vdh.virginia.gov to maximize your QI results.
VA Immunization Information System (VIIS) Tip
The Reminder/Recall Report is a valuable tool that helps providers identify patients who are due or overdue for vaccinations and supports timely outreach through phone calls, postcards, or patient lists. By encouraging on-time immunizations, providers can improve vaccine coverage, reduce vaccine wastage, address invalid doses, and help keep patients protected against vaccine-preventable diseases.
The Patient Detail Report provides a detailed view of patients and their documented immunizations, including vaccine manufacturer and lot number information. Available at the organization or facility level, this report can be run by Ownership or Service to support patient management, record review, and reporting needs. For added convenience, results can be exported to Excel or scheduled to run during off-peak hours for optimal performance.
