Date: Wednesday, October 7 Description: Stress First Aid (SFA) is a practical, evidence-informed peer-support program designed to help people recognize and respond early to stress reactions—before they turn into bigger mental-health problems. It was originally developed for the U.S. military and first responders, but it’s now used in healthcare, emergency services, social services, and workplaces. Mark your calendars - the Quit Nicotine/Smoking Blue Ridge Program is starting up again next Wednesday!
Starting September 23, this six-week class will take place virtually via Zoom on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 PM through October 28. This program is free and open to anyone living in the Blue Ridge Health District (including the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, & Nelson).
From free nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) to acupuncture and nutrition education, this class has a variety of strategies to help you find what works best! You'll also get to hear from former smokers/nicotine users who have successfully quit and want to help others do the same.
Not quite ready to quit yet? You're still invited to join! Even if you're not 100% ready to quit, this class can help you learn more about what quitting looks and feels like so you're better prepared for your next attempt.

It’s that time again to save the date for the Healthy Birth Healthy Baby (HBHB) Birth Expo! This year, the Expo will take place on Saturday, October 3 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Carver Recreation Center (233 4th St. NW, Charlottesville, VA).
Returning for the fourth year in a row, the HBHB Birth Expo showcases a variety of wonderful organizations around Charlottesville serving pregnant people and their babies. Expo attendees will have the opportunity to:

Join us at one of BRHD's local health departments for free Rapid REVIVE! Naloxone Training. Each event is free and will provide free naloxone to those who complete the brief training. Rapid in-home HIV test kits, free fentanyl/xylazine/benzodiazepines testing strips, condoms, lock boxes, and medication disposal bags will also be available. These events are open to everyone and occur on a monthly basis. No pre-registration required!

The Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department (1138 Rose Hill Dr., Charlottesville, VA 22903) is hosting a free sexually transmitted infection (STI) Test & Go event on Tuesday, October 20 from 4:30 to 6 PM (or until capacity is met).
These free walk-in STI testing events are held from 4:30 to 6 PM on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Testing is available for gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis B & C. Free safer sex items are also available. Testing is offered on a first-come, first-served basis with limited capacity. No treatment or exams will be performed at this event.
