Virginia Immunization Awareness Month

Getting immunized. It’s a little thing. But sharing information with your patients and their families about how immunizations keep them and their communities healthy is a big thing!
This year in August, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is celebrating its first Virginia Immunization Awareness month. a great time to talk about the importance of immunizations while children and their families are returning back to school.

Opportunity to Contribute to State Breastfeeding Data!
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC) survey helps hospitals assess what they can do to foster a breastfeeding-friendly environment. Questions focus on specific parts of the hospital maternity care that affect how babies are fed, such as breastfeeding, using formula to feed healthy newborns, and feeding routines. The mPINC survey will close on September 10th, 2026. Currently, only 38% of Virginia hospitals have responded. Let's work together to increase this number! Interested in learning more? Virginia Community HIV Planning Group
Do you work with clients with HIV? The Virginia CHPG could use your expertise!
The Virginia Community HIV Planning Group (CHPG) is recruiting new members. The CHPG is Virginia’s community advisory and planning group. They work with VDH to develop and update Virginia’s Integrated HIV Plan. The group's goal is to end the HIV epidemic and improve the health of people with HIV.
We are looking for healthcare providers that serve people with HIV. Whether you are a private provider, an infectious disease provider, or a mental health or other specialty provider that offers services to people with HIV, you could be an important voice at our table. Community voices are key, so there are attendance rules.
The CHPG meets six times a year, alternating Thursdays and Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Richmond. Members who live outside of the meeting area will receive a hotel room and be reimbursed for travel costs and meals. Lunch will be provided.

The application does ask personal and sensitive questions. This ensures that a diverse group of members is selected. Applications are kept on a secure system. Only the Membership Committee and certain VDH staff see applications.
