- Drink water regularly, even before you feel thirsty
- Take frequent shade or indoor breaks during outdoor activities
- Wear lightweight, loose‑fitting clothing
- Protect your skin and eyes with sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and limited sun exposure while outdoors
- Watch for signs of health-related illnesses
- Heat stroke is a medical emergency, call 911 if symptoms appear

Did you know?
- Children ages 1–4 have the highest drowning rates
- Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children 5-14
- Anyone, at any age, can drown
What You Can Do
- Never leave children unsupervised near water
- Ensure everyone has basic swimming and water safety skills
- Use life jackets when boating or in open water
- Swim in designated areas and follow posted safety instructions
- Avoid distractions such as phones while supervising
- Learn basic water rescue techniques and CPR
- Stay vigilant at all times

Warm weather means more cookouts and more risk of foodborne illness. Whenever you are handling food outdoors remember to serve food safely by keeping cold foods cold and hot foods hot.
💡Some other helpful tips include:

Proper Handwashing
- Wash hands with soap and warm or cold running water for at least 20 seconds
- Scrub palms, backs of hands, between fingers, and under nails
- Regular handwashing helps prevent foodborne illness from bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, and norovirus
Cut Melon Safety
- Wash and scrub whole melons before cutting them to prevent transferring surface bacteria
- After cutting, store them in clean, airtight containers and refrigerate at 41 °F (5 °C) or below to prevent bacterial growth

 Summer is the perfect time to enjoy fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables — and WIC families can get extra support to do just that. The Farm Market Fresh (FMNP) program is now open for enrollment at the Woodbridge and Manassas WIC Clinics.
What You’ll Receive
Eligible WIC participants get a $30 benefit per person to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs from authorized Virginia farmers during the current market season. Benefits are first-come, first-serve for the limited amount of benefits available.
