Updated Clinical Schedule is Here!
We’ve got a new clinic schedule hot off the press! One of the big updates? Our nurses are now providing children’s school and sports physicals monthly at each of our health departments! We’ve also expanded our monthly rapid HIV testing clinic to the Louisa County Health Department. Some of our other clinic times have shifted to accommodate our new additions, so please keep these updates in mind when calling to schedule appointments. Remember – all clinics are still by appointment-only!

Family Planning Program Survey Launch
Are you familiar with the Family Planning Program at Blue Ridge Health District? Do you know what services the program offers? We want to know – so we’re launching a survey to find out!
Our goal is to understand how familiar the community is with the Family Planning Program and its available services. Collecting this information will help us focus our marketing and communication efforts to reach more clients. The survey is only 6 questions and shouldn’t take longer than a few minutes to complete. We hope to hear from you!

Why is understanding caregiver burden important?
There are an estimated 53 million unpaid caregivers in the United States providing care to aging, disabled, or ill friends and family. Caring for loved ones can be meaningful, but also demanding. These demands can impact caregivers personally, professionally, and emotionally, including their physical health.
How does caregiving affect caregiver well-being, health, and work?
The time demands of caregiving often force caregivers to neglect their own needs, including getting enough sleep, exercising, preparing healthy meals, attending their own doctor’s appointments, and tending to other personal relationships. Caregivers who are employed may miss work to provide care. These work disruptions may lead to lost wages and long-term career consequences such as lower future earnings and missed opportunities for advancement.
What resources are available to help caregivers?
Many organizations offer caregiver support. The Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) has a free helpline at 434-817-5244. The helpline will connect you with a care coordinator at no cost to help you learn about resources available for both you and/or the person you care for. Additionally, the Blue Ridge Health District has an online Community Resource Directory listing additional resource agencies that serve caregivers in our area.
How can you prevent pertussis?
In addition to practicing good hygiene and taking antibiotics if prescribed, the best prevention is vaccination. There are two types of vaccines to protect against pertussis: DTaP for young children and Tdap for pregnant people and preteens through adults.

The Blue Ridge Health District is excited to share that we have hired Sarah King as our new Population Health Manager who will be managing the Community Health Assessment and Improvement Plan process, known as “MAPP2Health.” Sarah has already hit the ground running, meeting with our MAPP2Health Core Group partners – Sentara MJH, UVA Health, and UVA Department of Public Health Sciences – as well as a number of other valuable community partners to re-invigorate our CHA/CHIP work.
We are now re-launching 2025-2028 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) efforts following a pause earlier this year! We invite partners to join us on Tuesday, June 10 from 2 to 4 PM at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department (1138 Rose Hill Drive) for a work session to reconnect, review updated goals, and begin scheduling standing meetings for the next phase of CHIP implementation. If you plan to attend or would like to schedule a one‑on‑one conversation about alignment with the CHIP, please email Sarah King.
