The American Cancer Society is offering a webinar series for CHWs and those serving in similar roles called Equipping CHWs for Community Impact. Their 2nd session, From Progress to Pushback: CHWs Tackling the New Wave of Youth Nicotine Use, will happen on Tuesday, February 24 from 12 to 1:15 PM.
This session will discuss how youth nicotine use continues to evolve, and how Community Health Workers are on the front lines of prevention and education. During this session, we will:
- Explore how tobacco marketing normalized smoking
- Review the public health strategies that drove historic declines in tobacco use
- Examine how e‑cigarettes and emerging nicotine products threaten hard‑won progress
Participants will learn about emerging trends, key challenges, and practical strategies to support youth and families in their communities. Register online via Zoom.

In partnership with Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC), the Piedmont Regional Education Program Parent Resource Center is hosting the Life After High School: Transition Conference & Resource Fair on Saturday, March 7 from 8:30 AM to 12:15 PM at PVCC's Main Building (501 College Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22902).
This free event is open to teens, families, and professionals. The conference will offer presentations, panels, exhibits, and information to prepare families in special education for life after high school. If you would like to attend, complete the applicable registration form (adult registration form or student registration form).

The Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department (1138 Rose Hill Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22903) is hosting a free sexually transmitted infection (STI) Test & Go event on Tuesday, March 17 from 4:30 to 6 PM (or until capacity is met).
These free walk-in STI testing events are held from 4:30 to 6 PM on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Testing is available for gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis B & C. Free safer sex items are also available. Testing is offered on a first-come, first-served basis with limited capacity. No treatment or exams will be performed at this event. The Piedmont Regional Education Program Parent Resource Center is offering a half-day Family Partners in Special Education Conference for parents and caregivers of children with special needs and adults concerned about their child’s development. Taking place on Saturday, March 28 from 8:30 AM to 12:15 PM at the Charlottesville Area Technical Education Center (1000 East Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901), the conference agenda includes:
