Reminder: Lead & Copper Customer Notifications due December 31, 2025
The Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) has specific required notifications for waterworks with lead, galvanized requiring replacement (GRR), and "lead status unknown" service lines in their inventory. Waterworks with those types of lines must establish a process to ensure that notifications, outlined below, are completed:
-
Notify all affected, existing customers annually until the entire service line is no longer a lead, galvanized requiring replacement, or lead status unknown service line.
-
Notify all new customers, at service initiation, of the status of the service line.
- Following customer notification, waterworks must complete the certification statement and submit it to their ODW Field Office no later than July 1 annually. It must include copies of the customer notifications.
Note: If a service line is reclassified as non-lead by December 31, 2025, notification is no longer required.
Templates are available:
ODW and EPA have developed notification templates. Waterworks may use ODW or EPA templates, or request approval for modified versions from their field office.
