Webinar on Title V and Injury and Violence Prevention Collaborations
The Maternal and Child Health Bureau’s (MCHB) Division of Child, Adolescent, and Family Health (DCAFH) supports the Children’s Safety Network (CSN) to provide technical assistance and resources to Title V agencies and the broader child safety community. The goal is to increase their capacity to adopt and implement evidence-based safety programs to reduce and prevent fatal and serious injuries among infants, children, and adolescents.

Governor Glenn Youngkin Signs Legislation Banning Artificial Dyes in School Lunches, Takes Action on Additional Legislation
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed 185 pieces of legislation, including HB 1910 and SB 1289 carried by Delegate Hillary Pugh Kent and Senator Emily Jordan prohibiting public elementary and secondary schools from serving any food that contains specific color additives for school meals or competitive food. This legislation strengthens Virginia’s educational system to ensure continued health and prosperity in the Children of the Commonwealth.

Governor Glenn Youngkin Completes Action on Legislation from the 2025 General Assembly Session
Governor Glenn Youngkin completed action on 916 bills sent to him during the 2025 General Assembly session. The Governor signed 599 bills, amended 159 bills, and vetoed 157 bills. The Governor returned the budget, HB 1600, with 205 amendments and eight item vetoes.

Apply to the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program
The Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program cycle is now open.
The program provides funds to Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses working in an eligible public or private critical shortage facility, or nurse faculty at an eligible school of nursing.
Apply by Thursday, April 17, 7:30 p.m. ET.

National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program Application Now Open
Eligible health professionals may now apply to the National Health Service Corps’ three loan repayment programs. This year’s programs have increased funding for eligible clinicians, including an increase of 50 percent in the two-year NHSC Loan Repayment Program award amount to $75,000 for full-time primary care participants.

NHSC Scholarship Program Applications Now Open
The NHSC announced applications are now open for their NHSC Scholarship Program. This program awards scholarships to students pursuing eligible primary care health professions training. In return, practitioners commit to providing primary care health services in a Health Professional Shortage Area for a minimum of two years or a maximum of four years of full-time service. Applications will be accepted through Thursday May 8 at 7:30 pm ET.
For further assistance, NHSC will be holding a NHSC Scholarship Application Assistance Webinar on Wednesday, April 2 from 2:00-3:00 pm ET.

If you encounter pest or disease problems, contact your local Extension office for help identifying the culprit and for treatment options. Many Extension Master Gardener (EMG) units offer gardening seminars, plant sales, and many more educational opportunities for new and experienced gardeners.
