Outreach Network Monthly Newsletter

The Outreach Network has great trainings lined up for 2025 which are posted online on the BRHD Outreach Network Calendar. All trainings and events are free and open to all those serving the District in an outreach role. If you have not been to one of our trainings or events, I encourage you to drop in on one and check it out! As always, reach out to me with questions or concerns.

January Trainings & Events

REVIVE! Lay Rescuer Training

Date: January 13, 2025Description: Discuss the need for Naloxone in our communities; explain addiction; dispel common myths about addiction and overdose; explain how to identify a potential overdose emergency, as well as how to respond to an overdose emergency. Participants of this training will be able to receive Naloxone to administer in case of an emergency.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Neurological Conditions

Date: January 27, 2025Description: IPHI offers specialized training for frontline healthcare and direct care workers to enhance their knowledge of multiple sclerosis (MS), its symptoms, and available treatment options. This training also deepens the understanding of the unique needs of individuals living with neurological conditions, including MS.

In collaboration with Region Ten, the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD) are offering a free Mental Health First Aid Class at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department on Thursday, January 9 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches participants to identify, understand, and respond to mental health and substance use challenges. To learn more about the course details, visit the national Mental Health First Aid website.

This free in-person class is open to anyone and includes a combination of pre-work and a skills-based training course. The class's pre-work will take approximately 4 hours to complete and can be done in chunks.

We have a total of 30 available slots. If you are interested in participating, please email Amy Lane for more information by 4:30 PM today.

Are you a current CHW student or recent CHW course graduate interested in learning more about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)? The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is in need of CHW student volunteers to assist with their SNAP outreach efforts. In-person and virtual opportunities are available!
