Grant Recipient Spotlight
Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS)
NVFS is one of Virginia’s largest human service organizations since 1924, supporting over 30,000 individuals annually through a comprehensive, culturally sensitive approach. The NVFS Pediatric Primary Care Project (PPCP), in partnership with Kaiser Permanente’s Charitable Care for Kids Program, offers critical healthcare services to over 400 uninsured children each year in Prince William County. The program serves primarily Spanish-speaking, low-income families, with 77% living below the Federal Poverty Level.
Through funding from the Prince William Health District (PWHD), NVFS has hired a Community Health Worker (CHW) to enhance outreach and education about COVID-19 and other vaccines. The CHW conducts one-on-one calls to encourage wellness visits, immunizations, and vaccine uptake, while bilingual PPCP staff host health literacy workshops to educate parents on preventative care. This support strengthens the program’s ability to provide vital health information and promote vaccine safety and availability among underserved communities.

Grant recipients were chosen for funding after submitting proposals that would fund innovative strategies to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for those disproportionately affected by COVID-19. For more information, visit our webpage.
