Youth Under God - Youth Helping Neighbors (YUG-YHN) - YUG-YHN offers its outreach program to underserved people in neighborhoods throughout Prince William, specifically Manassas and Manassas Park where teams of teenage volunteers walk door-to-door providing COVID-19 information & vaccination opportunities by a licensed Pharmacist, along with food and community health materials and resources.
Executive Director MaryBeth Cobble tells us volunteers mostly encounter immigrant families with very low incomes and little to no healthcare, and YUG-YHN is making a difference for families who need it the most!
Partnering with Prince William Health District and its grant to "Fund Equity and Prioritize Populations Disproportionately Affected by COVID-19" has allowed YUG-YHN to reach even more people to increase vaccination rates and improve health outcomes in the community.
YUG-YHN shares what happened in a Manassas neighborhood a few weeks ago, a woman hesitantly cracked open her front door to a few of their volunteers standing on her stoop. The teens, wearing masks & gloves while carrying a couple of food boxes along with bags of fresh produce and milk, explained to the woman why they had knocked on her door.
"We're here to help you today with food and COVID packets," they said. "We are giving this to everyone in your area, for free!"
As tears rolled down the woman's face, she replied in broken English, "This is a miracle! I have COVID and am not feeling well. I have barely any food in my house and cannot buy groceries. And yet, here you are, with exactly the things I need most."
This is why we do what we do to help people right where they are. We are the hands and feet of a great community that cares deeply for its residents. May we all grow from this and share in a fresh compassion for our fellow human beings. - YUG-YHN
