WPHD Moves to Phase 2; Those 18 and Above Eligible for COVID Vaccine

It just got much easier to obtain a COVID-19 in the West Piedmont Health District. Now, anyone 18 years of age or older is eligible. What to do to get yours? Be sure that you have registered on Vaccinate Virginia. You will not be contacted if we don't know who you are and how to contact you! A Note about 16 -17 Year-Olds & Vaccines Not all vaccine brands are recommended for people in this age group. You will only be notified when the appropriate vaccine is being offered. At present, Pfizer is recommended.  What if You Do Not Use Internet? Not a problem. 1-877-VAX-IN-VA can get you registered and someone from the WPHD will call you to schedule your appointment. Also, a friend or loved one may register for you.

Patrick County resident gets a "wince free" vaccination during an immunization clinic on Wednesday.

The health district's Immunization Action Planner is beginning to work with each school system within the district to plan for back-to-school vaccinations, according to Nurse Manager Verna Burnette. These are not COVID vaccinations. Rather they are the vaccinations required to attend school in Virginia. Click here for a full description.   "Additional requirements this year will make it a busy BTS vaccine campaign," she said.  Additional information about back-to-school vaccinations will be announced as it becomes available.

 Equity Team Considers Outreach Plan

How well is the WPHD doing in reaching all populations? This is the question a newly formed equity team will consider when it meets today. 

A health equity outreach expert will guide us through some tools and techniques offered by VDH. And a local outreach plan will be immediately implemented.
