Staunton Parks and Recreation’s 3rd Annual “50 & Better” Senior Health Expo combines complimentary health screenings and informational booths on a broad variety of senior wellness needs. Attendees at this free, public event can enjoy coffee and refreshments, a gift basket raffle throughout the event, and wind their way through booths specially designed to promote the health and well-being of seniors. Staunton Parks and Recreation supports a strong aging lifestyle and healthy & active opportunities. We encourage our local “50 & Better” population to stay active, stay engaged and never stop becoming a better you.
Co-Ed Spring Softball League
Batter Up! Co-Ed Spring Softball is back! Grab your bat bag and glove and meet us at the ball park! League play will begin on May 7. Game nights will be on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Montgomery Hall Park. Three (3) ladies required on the field. League fee will be $300.Teams will be guaranteed 12 games. Ball requirement is 12”, .44 core, .375 for men, and any 11”, .44 core ball for women. Deadline to register is April 19. Once you register, you will receive a team roster that must be completed by opening day!
Eggstravaganza

Join us for our Annual Egg Hunt and Eggstravaganza Festival complete with moon bounce, old-fashioned egg coloring, refreshments, arts and crafts activities, face painting, and surprise entertainers. BYOB (bring your own basket). Free event!

Spring Window Accents
Spring has almost sprung! Come paint three colorful seasonal window accents, handmade for you by our local pottery studio, the Staunton Clayground (www.stauntonclayground.com). Choose from a variety of shapes including flowers, bunnies and Easter eggs. Come with a friend or bring your kids along. This workshop is for people age 12+, but ages 6+ are welcome if working side-by-side with an adult participant. A Staunton Clayground instructor will lead the workshop, and they will provide all materials, including ribbons, so that you can take your handmade window accent home to hang the same day. Nature Walks W/ Sancta NaturaFamily Walks
Join us for a fun, informative Nature Walk through diverse ecosystems. We may encounter notable butterflies, birds, and we’ll learn about important plants of mountainous parts in Virginia along the way. This walk is for naturalists of all levels and ages, including accompanied children. It is for those able to handle moderate strenuous activity, as we will cover approximately under 1 mile, and much of the walk will be sloped. Things to bring: Sun protection-insect repellent-water-binoculars/camera (highly recommended). Instructor: Tom Wyatt of Sancta Natura. Price: Free

Little Movers
Let’s get our groove on! This creative movement class is made for pre-school age kids who like to move and dance. Through fun activities and structured play, your child will exercise their mind and body. This environment allows those creative juices to start flowing and helps provide a positive outlet that promotes health and self-confidence. Ages 3-5. Instructor: Riva Mains. GHPGC. Price: $38. Rock Climbing Club-After School
A 4 week after school program for youth to learn the basics of rock climbing & belaying in a safe environment. Vivid Earth Adventures staff will set new routes each week to challenge climbers and will encourage growth and fun for the group. Helmets, harnesses, and climbing shoes provided. Participants should wear comfortable and weather appropriate clothing. All registrants must have Acknowledgement of Risk and Health forms signed and submitted in order to participate. Using “Monkey Hardware,” Vivid Earth will utilize trees for rock climbing routes, in addition to other elements that will aid in classes. Ages 9-13. he class will meet at Gypsy Hill Park-Golf Pavilion in Staunton for drop off (4:15) and pickup (6pm). Lead Instructor, Casey Tucker, is a Top Rope Climbing Instructor certified through PCIA and brings 14+ years of experience in outdoor & adventure recreation and youth development. High Knob Fire Tower Hike
Enjoy the great outdoors with an afternoon hike to a summit and restored stone fire tower in the George Washington Natl. Forest. Along our hike learn some basic outdoor safety. All technical gear and instruction is provided; a personal suggested clothing list, Medical Form/Participant Agreement, and driving directions to the activity meetup will be supplied by Wild GUYde Adventures after registration Ages: 50+. 31st Annual YOUTH Fishing Derby
Saturday, May 3, 8am-11am, Lake Tams in Gypsy Hill Park Open to youth 4-15 years of age. Prizes awarded in various categories. FREE on-site registration begins at 7:30am.

The City maintains an 18-hole, par 71 municipal golf course in Gypsy Hill Park that is open to members as well as nonmembers year round. The course boasts the most affordable rates in the Shenandoah Valley.
