SEP For Consumers Impacted by Tropical Storm Helene
Hello Exchange Agents and Assisters,
Many Virginia residents have been impacted by Tropical Storm Helene. This could make it difficult for them to maintain or enroll in health insurance coverage. Below is important information for residents who were impacted:
- Affected Virginia residents of FEMA-designated localities who meet eligibility requirements for QHPs will be granted a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). See below for designated localities:
- Giles, Grayson, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, and Wythe counties and the independent city of Galax
- Consumers will need to call the Consumer Assistance Center (888-687-1501) and verify that they reside in one of the impacted localities.
- Once verified, an SEP will be opened based on the extenuating circumstances, and consumers can apply for coverage.
Some consumers outside of FEMA-designated localities may also be affected and qualify for a SEP (example: employer closure related to Helene causing loss of employer-sponsored health insurance). Visit https://www.marketplace.virginia.gov/new-customers for information around Qualifying Life Events.
For questions or assistance, please contact our dedicated agent/assister line at the Consumer Assistance Center at 888-687-1502.
