Pop-Up Exhibit to Highlight Dog Life in Leesburg

Leesburg Dog

Leesburg, VA (July 31, 2023) – The public is invited to a pop-up exhibit on Friday, August 4, which will focus on Leesburg’s canine residents.

Documents and photographs from Thomas Balch Library’s archival collections will reveal the history of pet keeping in Leesburg.

The exhibit will include an early ordinance, 19th century dog taxes, a gallery of dog and owner photographs, stories about particularly notable dogs from newspapers, letters, and oral histories, and, of course, Dog money.

Visitors will discover how dogs have shaped life and laws in Leesburg and will even have the opportunity to try their hand at activities that will help them explore these interesting records.

The event will be held at the Donaldson Log Cabin (14 Loudoun St. SW) in conjunction with First Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information call 703-737-7195 or email balchlib@leesburgva.gov.
