Town of Leesburg and Loudoun County Branch of the NAACP Officials Sign Memorandum of Understanding 

Agreement aimed at improving relations between the Leesburg Police Department and the local community.

Leesburg, VA (February 26, 2018) – This morning, Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk, Leesburg Chief of Police Gregory Brown, and Loudoun County Branch of the NAACP President Phillip Thompson signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), pledging to work cooperatively to improve communications and transparency between the Leesburg Police Department and the local community.

In accordance with the MOU, the Leesburg Police Department will make annual presentations to the NAACP on programs aimed at preventing youth crime, assign a liaison officer to the NAACP, and provide training to all officers on fair and impartial policing. In turn, the NAACP will actively participate in local public safety programs and educational programs on how unconscious bias can impact community policing efforts.

The Leesburg Town Council passed a resolution approving the MOU at their February 13, 2018, meeting.
