Ida Lee Main Indoor Pool Expected
to Reopen by Wednesday, March 7, 2018
Leak
discovered last week caused no structural damage.
Leesburg, VA (February
16, 2018) – Repairs to
the drain vaults in the deep end of the main indoor pool at Ida Lee Park
Recreation Center are expected to be completed within the next three weeks.
On Wednesday, February 7, the
water level of the pool was falling rapidly. Upon investigation, staff
discovered that the fibreglas lining of one of the pool’s three drain vaults
was cracked. Once the pool was completely drained, engineering analysis
determined that the leak had not caused significant erosion under the pool
shell or any structural damage to the pool.
As a precaution against similar
problems with the other two drain vaults, all three vaults are being reinforced
with rebar and encased in new concrete. Once the concrete cures, new plaster
coatings will be applied.
The pool is expected to reopen by
Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Customers registered for aquatics classes should
contact the Ida Lee front desk (703-777-1368) for any schedule changes to
specific classes.
