Welcome to April’s edition of the Reston District newsletter. Captain Jonthan Weeks and I would like to thank everyone who has subscribed to receive the newsletter since its start. With each newsletter distributed, we see more subscribers, demonstrating everyone’s desire to be informed about what is occurring in our community.
As we close out March, we are proud to report that our officers continue to provide the best service possible to our community, which has resulted in a reduction in overall crimes. However, the month also brought an uptick in crime surrounding motor vehicle thefts. We encourage everyone to continue to follow the steps identified in our 9PM routine, which has recently been updated and published on our social media platforms. This will greatly assist in keeping your property safe and secure.
With the warmer weather comes more outdoor events. Take extra steps keeping items secure. Don’t leave valuable and personal effects unattended. Most importantly, be aware of your surroundings and don’t hesitate to contact us if you see someone or something suspicious.
In addition, we are always looking for ways to improve our community partnerships, and one of these ways is through our monthly Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) meetings. We encourage you to attend these meetings. You would find the CAC very informative about occurrences within our community. Some of the upcoming presentations include the Department’s Drone Program, Second Story, and CERT.
Furthermore, be on the lookout for some exciting initiatives planned for 2025. We believe they will contribute to keeping our community even safer to live, commute to, and work.

Does your community have a Neighborhood Watch? Are you interested in enhancing the quality of life where you live and promoting community cohesiveness and overall public safety? Would you like to start a Neighborhood Watch?
There is no single right way to organize your Neighborhood Watch group. However, traditionally, a Neighborhood Watch group will include a law enforcement officer (Reston Stations Crime Prevention Officer), an area coordinator who lives in the community, block captains, watch members and other engaged residents.
This program is supported by the Fairfax County Police Department and operated by members of our community in collaboration with your local police station’s Crime Prevention Officer.
The Neighborhood Watch program stresses education and observation. It empowers community members to help themselves and their neighbors by better identifying and reporting suspicious activity in their communities. Neighborhood Watch focuses on observation and awareness as a means of preventing and responding to crime. It also promotes social interaction, community ownership, and public health.
Neighborhood Watch is for everyone. We encourage all neighborhoods and communities to participate. This program is meant to be inclusive of any interested and engaged community member and is customizable for your neighborhood! The FCPD is committed to working with you to establish a Neighborhood Watch program that works for you and your neighbors.
The Neighborhood Watch program is all about getting to know one another and watching out for each other. During your daily routine remain alert of any activity occurring in your neighborhood. Understand that your mission is to deter, observe and report suspicious activity in your communities.

FCPD Camera Sharing Program

The program enables you to share live video feeds with the Fairfax County Police Department in emergencies to improve community safety and law enforcement response.

CRIME RECAP
Join Nextdoor or Neighbors Public Safety Service to get up-to-date crime reports.
Reston District Police Station Crime Report includes significant criminal incidents that occur in the designated time frame listed within the Reston District. Information contained in the FCPD RECAP is generally based on the initial reports made to the police department and does not include follow-up investigations, which may reveal different or additional information. Addresses shown indicate blocks or intersections within the district. This report is not a comprehensive list of every police event in Fairfax County in the stated time frame.

LOCK YOUR VEHICLE!
Larceny is a Crime of Opportunity
It only takes a moment for thieves to walk by to check your door handle, or to see valuables on the seat. Crews do target “quiet” neighborhoods where residents are less likely to be vigilant, but they also target shopping centers, gyms, and local parks day or night. Don’t be an easy target! Get into the habit of storing valuable items out of sight (before you get to your destination) and keeping your vehicle doors locked. Please, STOP leaving keys in your vehicles!
Keeping the community safe is a shared responsibility. We need to hear from you, if you see something suspicious! Do not confront the person, call the police immediately. For Emergencies or Crimes in Progress call: 9-1-1 & For Non-Emergency call: 703-691-2131.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Dunkin Donuts for their kindness and generosity in providing their Community Cruiser Food Truck to our station on March 26th.
Coffee, treats, and gift cards were given to the officers of the station in appreciation for their service. Dunkin's support had a meaningful impact, not only did they bring delicious food but also helped foster a sense of togetherness.
What a delightful visit, thank you Dunkin!

Happy Feet and Seats!
The Reston District Station will be accepting children's S, M, L socks and underwear for those children in need. They will be given to several local Elementary Schools to assist the families. These items will be accepted through April 14th and distributed that week to several schools.
We want to thank all those community members that have graciously given. FCPD Reston appreciates their support!
Prescription Drug Take back Day
Twice a year Reston District Station hosts the Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. That's why it was great to see thousands of folks from across the country clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in - safely and anonymously - a record amount of prescription drugs. Take action by tuning in your unused and expired medication for safe disposal on Saturday, April 26th from 10:00-2:00pm at 1850 Town Center Pkwy, Reston (Pavillion II-Entrance 5, back side of the Hospital). A tent will be set up for the event.
Community Advisory Committee
Please join FCPD at the next CAC meeting.
It will be held on April 30th at 7PM at the FCPD Helicopter Port, 4604 West Ox Rd.
Gather your neighbors and friends to discuss community concerns and interests. We tailor our meetings around requested speakers from FCPD, non-profit organizations, local businesses, etc. Our next guest speaker is 2Lt. Woehrlen. He will provide a presentation on FCPD's Drone Program, and then we will tour the Helicopter Port.
Lake Anne Cardboard Boat Regatta
Saturday, August 9th, 2025 from - Reston Museum - 1639 Washington Plaza Reston, VA, 20190 at Lake Anne
The Reston Museum is hosting a fun and unique event, the Lake Anne Cardboard Boat Regatta. It has quickly become a community favorite and growing in size each year. The Regatta brings together residents, businesses, and visitors from across the Greater Washington, D.C. metro area. Participating teams of all ages will construct and decorate their own life-size cardboard boats. These boats will then take to the water in timed heats with team members rowing out to a designated buoy and back to the docks at Lake Anne Plaza. Pre-registration and registration are nonrefundable, the event is rain or shine, and all crew members must be 10 years or older.
Child Seat checks are completed by reservation only. Contact the Reston District Station to sign-up at 703-478-0904.
Please install your child safety seat prior to the appointment. The seat will be re-installed if necessary.
Learning how to install your child seat properly is crucial, keep in mind that more than 70% of child safety seats are improperly installed.
