From The Commander - Major Luik
Dear Mount Vernon Community,
As we close the chapter on 2024, I want to take a moment to celebrate the successes we’ve achieved together and share our optimistic outlook for 2025. This year has highlighted the incredible strength of partnership between the Mount Vernon District Station and our community, proving that collaboration is the foundation of a safer and more united district.
2024 Successes
This year, we significantly reduced motor vehicle thefts thanks to targeted patrols and data-driven deployment of resources in areas most impacted by crime. These outcomes were not only the result of proactive policing but also the trust and cooperation of residents who reported suspicious activity and provided valuable information.
Community engagement remained a cornerstone of our efforts. In 2024, we hosted CAC meetings, expanded Neighborhood Watch programs into additional neighborhoods, and participated in over 150 community events. Initiatives like Coffee with a Cop, Shop with a Cop, and Trunk or Treat allowed us to connect with residents in meaningful ways, strengthening trust and transparency.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we enter 2025, our vision is clear: to build on last year's successes and address new challenges with determination and innovation. Technology will also play a crucial role in our strategy. We aim to implement predictive policing tools and enhanced surveillance systems to better anticipate and prevent criminal activity.
We will focus on partnerships that address systemic issues like youth engagement and mental health to foster lasting change. Collaborations with schools, nonprofits, and mental health professionals will be vital to creating long-term safety solutions. We also remain committed to transparent communication, that is why FCPOD.ORG has been created to keep our citizens apprised of statistics that directly affect their communities.
Our mission is to serve and protect the Mount Vernon District while fostering trust, accountability, and collaboration. Thank you for your continued partnership and support, which inspire us to work harder every day. Together, we can make 2025 a year of progress, safety, and unity.
With gratitude,
Matthew Luik Mount Vernon District Station Commander Fairfax County Police Department
