Using funds from a Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth grant, the Fairfax Food Council plans to implement a composting pilot program at multiple FCPS schools this school year. This program aims to help schools reduce food waste by teaching students how to repurpose trash-bound scraps. The Fairfax Food Council will provide participating schools with tools and resources (e.g., collection bins, composting tumbler(s), educational resources) to implement this small pilot program.

Food Delivery Drivers
ACCA is seeking food delivery drivers in Annandale/Bailey’s Crossroads. There is no fixed commitment. Drivers can work weekly or every few weeks or less as it fits their schedules. Drivers receive a survey at the beginning of the week where they can indicate their availability for the week. Deliveries are between 1:30 and about 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Drivers receive food referrals from the food captain, contact the client to ensure they will be home, pick up pre-packed food at the pantry, and drive to the client’s residence. The time involved is usually less than an hour.
Food Captains – Fully Remote
ACCA is looking for schedulers to coordinate requests for food with drivers to deliver groceries to clients within its service area. This fully remote role can be done from home with computer and internet access. Food captains receive requests by email then coordinate these requests and schedule drivers to deliver food to homes. Training is provided. Food captains are asked to work one week per quarter and should be available during business hours.
For more information about these roles, contact volunteers@accacares.org.
