Join the conversation about Hunger Action Month with the Fairfax County Department of Family Services' community engagement toolkit. You can help fight hunger by raising awareness about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Fairfax County. Simply use the messages, graphics, newsletter and email text, and video backgrounds in the toolkit to spread the word.

The Morningstar Foundation is committed to closing the healthy food access gap in the Washington, DC region. Via its Food Gap Project, funds are available for cold storage and infrastructure that support the storage and/or distribution of healthy food while also helping to reduce food waste.
Eligibility requirements:
- The organization is a 501c3 operating in Washington, DC, Prince George's County, Montgomery County, Arlington County, Alexandria or Fairfax Counties
- Serves one or more underserved neighborhoods/communities with a lack of access to fresh, healthy and perishable foods
- The organization will use grant funding to support the storage and/or distribution of healthy foods
To apply for a $5,000 to $75,000 grant, email alexandra@fruitful.online a three page or less Word Document with the following:
- Name/Organization
- About the organization
- Who the organization serves
- Cold Storage/Infrastructure needs and rationale for these needs
- List of top 10 largest funders
- Budget breakdown - specifics on equipment needs + make/model

IHPC is a community health program reaching K-7th grade students in under-resourced areas both virtually and in-person. Through creative taste tests, hands-on cooking, and nutrition education, IHPC works to increase vegetable consumption among children who attend Title 1 schools or who are eligible for free and reduced lunch.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate extensive volunteer network.
- Teach Inova Healthy Plate Club curriculum at schools, health fairs, community centers and other related events.
- Coordinate aspects of in-person and virtual classes, including the preparation of materials and supplies.
- Represent Inova at community meetings.
- Input data and track and analyze metrics; prepare reports.
- Develop relationships with community stakeholders and secure health promotion event opportunities.
- Organize, inventory and order supplies; wash and sanitize equipment.
- Support the development of new projects and programs for the Inova Healthy Plate Club.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The Program Coordinator must have reliable transportation. Some evening and weekend work is required.

If you don't know where to start when it comes to planting your fall vegetable garden, come to this 100% hands on workshop. Limited plants and seeds will be provided. We'll walk you through every step. You'll learn: direct seeding, transplanting, plant spacing, when to expect a harvest and more! Walk-ins welcome.

Britepaths is seeking volunteers to help neighbors use SNAP at the Wakefield Farmers Market (located at Audrey Moore Rec Center) on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. this season. Britepaths staff working at the market will train volunteers to operate the SNAP EBT terminal and help community members maximize their SNAP/EBT benefits. Volunteers must be 18 or older, be able to commit to five hours of work every other week, and have reliable transportation to the market. Proficiency in Spanish is encouraged for volunteers, but not required.

Donate fresh produce at all 10 Fairfax County Park Authority Farmers Markets! Purchase extra produce or packaged foods and drop them off at the Market Information tent. Donations then go to local food pantries for distribution. Only market-bought fresh produce and prepared foods (no frozen or hot items) are accepted. The program will be held once a month at all 10 Market locations. The next donation week will be September 25 – September 29.
