Sales Tax Holiday
Friday-Sunday, Times Vary
Virginia's three-day sales tax holiday starts Friday at 12:01 a.m. and ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m. During the sales tax holiday, you can buy qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear and hurricane and emergency preparedness items without paying sales tax.

Join us for sensory-friendly time at the Cub Run Rec Center Leisure Pool in Chantilly. Individuals and families who need reduced sensory input can enjoy the water park's slides, water jets, lazy river and more.
Coffee & a Classic: For Me and My Gal (10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)
Join us at the Richard Byrd Library to watch the classic 1942 movie For Me and My Gal and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee.
Virtual Opioid Overdose & Naloxone Education Training (11 a.m. - noon)
Learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, what to do in an overdose situation and how to administer naloxone in this online course.
English Conversation for Spanish Speakers (4 - 5:30 p.m.)
Practice your English with other Spanish speakers in a group setting at the Centreville Regional Library.

Join us at the Lorton Community Action Center for a family-friendly day of fun. Enjoy free giveaways of back to school supplies, hearing, vision and dental screenings, vaccines, exhibitors, touch-a-truck and much more.

Mad Science of Washington (10 - 10:45 a.m.)
This spellbinding show at Wakefield Park introduces children to the principles of vibration and chemistry. See how vibrations can make sound, watch as we mix potions together to make a rainbow, hear dry ice talk and see how we can use chemistry to blow up a balloon.
Back 2 School Supply Drive (10 a.m. - 8 p.m.)
Sully Community Center is hosting a Back 2 School Supply Drive. Help kids by dropping off backpacks, lunch boxes, notebooks, pens, pencils and other school supplies. Supplies will be handed out at the Sully Community Day event on Saturday, Aug. 17.
Cultural Fair (10 a.m. - noon)
Take a trip around the world at the annual Oakton Library Cultural Fair. This interactive event celebrates cultures from around the world with trivia, treats and performances.
Summer Joke Tellers' Club (2 - 3 p.m.)
Kids can create their own joke book at the Martha Washington Library. Pull your favorite jokes from the library's joke books and illustrate the pages and the cover of your book.
Starlight Cinema (6 p.m.)
Come out to our Starlight Drive-in Cinema at the Sully Historic Site to watch movies under the stars. This four-film series kicks off with a showing of Migration. Gates open 6 p.m. with a pre-movie children’s show at 7 p.m.
Indonesian Cultural Heritage Night 'Santi Budaya' (7:30 - 8:30 p.m.)
Watch Indonesian dances from Java, Bali, Sumatra and other Indonesian islands at Ossian Hall Park. Santi Budaya preserves the best of Indonesian dance culture with a diverse group of highly-trained dancers, musicians and lavish costumes.
Campfire Night Hike - Predators at Night (8:30 - 9:30 p.m.)
Enjoy a night hike at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park to learn about nocturnal hunters. Listen to taped calls of owls and coyotes and possibly catch a glimpse of them in the forest. End the evening with s'mores round the campfire.

Fear Not! Understanding and Helping Your Fearful Dog (noon - 1:30 p.m.)
Join us for a free behavior class at our Animal Shelter's Lorton Campus. This session will help you identify signs of fear and anxiety in dogs, learn techniques for building your dog's confidence, understand actions that may be undermining your dog's confidence and more.

Build with LEGOs and make unique creations with friends at the Pohick Regional Library. This program is for school age children ages 6-12.
Jigsaw Puzzle and Game Swap (3:15 - 3:45 p.m.)
Tired of the same old games and puzzles? Swap out your gently used jigsaw puzzles and board and card games with other enthusiasts at the Chantilly Regional Library. Please ensure items are in good condition and complete.
Latin Ballet of Virginia (7:30 - 8:30 p.m.)
Watch Latin Ballet of Virginia's Fiesta Del Sol performance at the Mason District Park Amphitheater. This performance is based on the music, dance and traditions of Central America and the Caribbean.
