Critter Comeback (10-10:45 a.m.)
Parents, bring your preschooler to investigate what happens to the animals as spring returns at the Hidden Oaks Nature Center. Enjoy walks, live animals, nature talks and crafts to develop a better understanding of and appreciation for the natural world.

Citizenship Class with Progreso (10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)
Visit the Sherwood Regional Library to start a 12-week course to review the 100 questions of the U.S. citizenship exam. Review includes civic questions, test vocabulary and preparation for the oral interview.
Coffee and a Classic: On the Waterfront (10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)
There's nothing better on a Friday morning than a classic movie and a fresh cup of coffee. Visit the Richard Byrd Library to watch the 1954 film On the Waterfront.

Black History Month at Historic Frying Pan Church (noon-2 p.m.)
Established in the 18th century, the original congregation of the Frying Pan Baptist Meetinghouse included enslaved, free Black and white-slaveholding members. Learn about the local Black family that lived next to the Meetinghouse. A docent will be available to talk about the experience of Black congregants of the church.

Lunar New Year Celebrations (Times Vary)
Celebrate the Year of the Dragon and learn about Chinese culture with special performances, music, crafts and games at our libraries.
Homemade Bird Feeders (11 a.m.-noon)
Bring a clean, empty plastic bottle to make a bird feeder at Burke Lake Park. We will discuss tips for feeding birds and learn to identify common birds.
Washington Gardener Seed Exchange (12:30-4 p.m.)
Washington Gardener Magazine is co-hosting the annual seed exchange at Green Spring Gardens with lectures and a seed swap. Bring your extra seeds to swap and leave with a bag full of seeds, new garden friends and expert planting advice.
Winter Stream Life (1-2 p.m.)
Explore Walney Creek at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park with a naturalist and meet some of the small creek critters that call it home. Learn why so many different types of macroinvertebrates are active in winter streams.
Starting a Women-Owned Business Using Women's Business Center Resources (2-4 p.m.)
Discover resources and assistance opportunities for entrepreneurs starting to plan and open their own businesses at the Patrick Henry Library. Cindy Butler, director of the Women's Business Center, will share her insight.

Explore the origins and significance of garden features and fads, from plant oddities, garden gnomes and hermits, to follies, stumperies, pink flamingos and more. Hear about eccentric gardeners and learn about the importance of garden oddities.

To Build a Fire (noon-1 p.m.)
Learn about the science and art of building a fire at Riverbend Park. Test your skill with primitive fire bows and modern fire-making techniques. Use your new skills to roast some s'mores at the end.
Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company (noon-6 p.m.)
Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company at the McLean Community Center. The 2024 Dragon Festival will feature dance and a live musical performance using traditional Chinese instruments.
Kwame Alexander – Poet and Author (3 p.m.)
Hear from best-selling poet and author Kwame Alexander on their new book This Is the Honey: An Anthology of Contemporary Black Poets at the Reston Community Center. This comprehensive and vibrant poetry anthology is a collection of contemporary anthems that are tender, piercing and deeply inspiring.
Memory Depot Orientation: Digitize Your Stuff (3-3:45 p.m.)
The Memory Depot at the George Mason Regional Library is a do-it-yourself station where you can digitize a variety of materials. Learn how you can make back-ups of original photos or convert old formats into something you can watch and listen to today.
