Attend the Budget Open House, April 2
Fairfax City is holding a budget open house from 4-8 p.m. on April 2 at the Sherwood Community Center, 3740 Blenheim Blvd.
Residents are encouraged to come learn about the proposed FY 2026 budget, ask questions, and speak with elected officials and city staff.

Parking is available on-site, and CUE Bus riders can access the Sherwood Center via Gold Route 1 (stop 151) and Gold Route 2 (stop 89).

Attend Moving Forward Together: Women Educating & Inspiring Generations, March 23
Join a panel of local women educators as they share personal experiences and lessons learned and highlight the contributions of women educators in shaping communities, fostering mentorship, and leading with purpose.
This City of Fairfax Commission for Women event will take place from 1-3 p.m. on March 23 at City Hall.
Councilmember Stacey Hardy-Chandler will serve as moderator. Featured panelists include Lori Huberman Hayes, Noel Klimenko, Aubrey May-Goldberg, Laura May, and Ann Monday.
The event will conclude with an opportunity to share light refreshments and connect with each other.
For those planning to attend, feminine hygiene supplies to donate to the high school would be greatly appreciated.

Faces of Fairfax City: Bisnonna Bakeshop (tap to watch)

For Women's History Month, this Faces of Fairfax City episode features Bisnonna Bakeshop and its role in the community. Bisnonna Bakeshop is a small artisan Italian bakery with recipes that have been passed down for generations. Owner Nicole Liberatore provides insight into the challenges she faces as a woman business owner along with advice for aspiring girl bosses.

Presentations and Proclamations
- Mayor Catherine Read presented proclamations acknowledging the month of March as Women’s History Month in the City of Fairfax; the 50th anniversary of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Greater DC.; and March 21, 2025, as Save Soil Day in the City of Fairfax.

Work Session
- Discussed the George Snyder Trail project. The city has $20.6M in funding for this project and VDOT authorization to advertise for construction bids. View the presentation.
- Discussed the proposed FY2026 budget.
Public Hearing Not Required
- The city council set the maximum real estate tax rate for FY 2026 to be advertised at $1.150 per $100 of assessed value, which is $0.025 (2.5¢) more than the city manager’s FY2026 proposed budget real estate tax rate. Once a proposed rate is advertised, the council may adopt a lower rate but cannot adopt a higher rate without restarting the public hearing process.
(Approved, 4-2, Councilmembers Hall and Peterson opposed.)

- Held a closed meeting for consultation with legal counsel regarding non litigation.

 Spring is around the corner. Get a free Virginia native tree from the city in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. All residential city addresses are eligible; limit one tree per address, while supplies last. Trees have been selected specifically for residential yards. Public Hearing for Chain Bridge Road and Eaton Place Intersection Improvements Set for March 25
The City of Fairfax has designed improvements to the intersection of Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) and Eaton Place. The city council endorsed the recommended design on April 11, 2023. A public hearing will be held on March 25. The city council meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Attend in person or watch online at fairfava.gov.

Volunteer for the Spring Community Cleanup Event, April 6
Help keep the city clean! Volunteer for the 2025 spring community cleanup event from 9 a.m. to noon April 6.
Participate in this community effort to reduce pollution, protect wildlife, beautify the community, and raise awareness of plastic pollution.
