Join Better Said Than Done in Fairfax, VA, or online, for the 6th Annual Women’s Storytelling Festival. The festival features 19 storytellers performing over 3 days in-person at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center, 3740 Blenheim Blvd, Fairfax, VA 22030, March 21 – 23, with a special virtual only showcase premiering on March 20, 2025. The festival will be live-streaming and ticket holders will be able to watch the recordings for one month after.

In light of the economic situation, Better Said Than Done is offering a limited number of free tickets to the 2025 Women’s Storytelling Festival.
If you are unemployed, underemployed, retired, a student, or a teacher, you can apply by filling out this form. The application closes on Wednesday. Apply by March by 19th.
We are thrilled with our phenomenal cast of storytellers: Karin Amano, Sarah Brady, Laura Deal, Swapna Deshpande, Linda Gorham, Jennifer Hillery, Tobey Ishii Anderson, Andrea Kamens, Amanda Lawrence, Carol Moore, Miriam Nadel, Sarah Beth Nelson, Ingrid Nixon, Laura Packer, Jessica Robinson, Aimee Snow, Sarah Snyder, Shani Womack, and Janel Woodland.
The festival emcees are as amazing as the storytellers. We are excited to be joined by Bonnie Gardner, Sherry Grimes, Jeanna Lee, Jamie McElhatton, Miriam Nadel, Kristin Pedemonti, Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read, Miss Virginia Lauren Stephens, and host of NPR's 1A Jenn White.
Clare and Don’s Beach Shack is providing Saturday and Sunday lunches, and Saturday dinner. We highly recommend that you purchase food in advance. You can check out menu options and order 1, 2, or 3 meals at the link below.

"JJ" Mitchell will give a pipe organ concert lasting approximately one hour. The repertoire will feature standard works by familiar composers as well as gems by underrepresented composers. In The Most Human: Reconciling with My Father Leonard Nimoy, Adam Nimoy explores his complicated and often tumultuous relationship with his father, Leonard, the iconic half-Vulcan science officer he portrayed on Star Trek. Despite their differences, father and son travelled parallel paths from divorce, to addiction, and finally to recovery. More importantly, Adam Nimoy shares how he and his father reconciled with the help of AA meetings and over Shabbat dinners. George Takei says "The fact that Leonard and Adam found a way to rebuild their relationship should resonate with anyone who struggles with difficult family dynamics."

Extra{ordinary} Courage: the politics of language and masculinity. By exploring courage, Mengestu will present us with his ideas on the politics of language and masculinity. Through his work the multitudes of men and women at work in the cities and small towns in America become personal and quietly heroic.
Mengestu is the author of four novels, including Someone Like Us (Knopf 2024), and The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears (Riverhead, 2007), all New York Times Notable Books. A native of Ethiopia who came with his family to the United States at the age of two, Mengestu is also a freelance journalist who has reported about life in Darfur, northern Uganda, and eastern Congo.
He is a 2012 MacArthur Fellow, among other honors. The lecture is brought to you by the Cheuse Center, Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL), the City of Fairfax & Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). This lecture series is made possible by the generous support of William Miller & Elisabeth Vermilye.
