Members of the Mason Jazz Voice Studio have been featured with the American Festival Pops Orchestra, Mason Jazz Ensemble and Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, directed by Jim Carroll, Capitol Bones All-Brass Big Band, directed by Matt Niess, Ben Folds, as back-up vocalists, National Symphony Orchestra (Wolf Trap), Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Beach Symphony and Howard County Concert Odyssey.
Mason Jazz vocalists are in-demand performers in the Washington DC region. They have won DownBeat Student Music Awards for "Outstanding Performance" and "Outstanding Scat Performance" been accepted into prestigious residencies including the "Strathmore Artist in Residence," "Betty Carter Jazz Ahead" and won military band positions!
Origin Records recording artist, Darden Purcell is a featured soloist with symphony orchestras, big bands, small ensembles, band leader and vocal educator. Dr. Purcell is the Director of Jazz Studies, Jazz Voice instructor and director of the Downbeat award-winning Mason Jazz Vocal Ensemble at George Mason University.
