The Cathedral Brass is a music ensemble comprised of accomplished brass and percussion performers - including professionals, retired military musicians, and talented community players - dedicated to the high-quality performance of unique brass music for the enjoyment of greater Washington, D.C. audiences.  While the Cathedral Brass performs traditional brass favorites, our programs also include selections from a broad range of styles and sources, including jazz, Latin, rock and roll, funk, and other popular music traditions. The Cathedral Brass performs with a 22-person brass choir ensemble. a trombone quartet, a brass quintet, and a jazz combo.  Their performance for the Bonita Lestina Old Town Hall Performance Series will feature the full range of their ensembles. The concert will also feature soloist, Phil Franke, former principal euphonium performer with the United States Marine Band "The President's Own."

In support of Virginia Opera’s world premiere production of Loving v. Virginia, this legal panel discusses the origins, challenges, and significance of the 1967 Supreme Court ruling that struck down state laws banning marriage between individuals of different races. Panel participants will include Mary Bauer, Executive Director of ACLU-VA, as well as other constitutional scholars, active attorneys and/or judges, and experts in the area. There will be a brief Q & A session following the discussion. 

This event is offered in conjunction with the Center for the Arts at George Mason University’s May 3–4 performances of the world premiere opera—composed by Damien Geter, with libretto by Jessica Murphy Moo, and directed by Denyce Graves. Loving v. Virginia is based on the true story of Mildred and Richard Loving, a married couple from Central Point, VA, who were criminally charged for their interracial marriage and forced to leave the state to avoid prison sentences, then took their case to the Supreme Court and won this landmark victory for civil rights in the United States. This complimentary event is an open-to-the-public presentation.

In this lecture demonstration, Mason Artist-in-Residence Versa-Style Street Dance Company - named "Los Angeles' Best Dance Troupe for Hip Hop Empowerment" by LA Weekly - introduces the audience to the electrifying world of Hip Hop and street dance culture. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the troupe provides an "uplifting and joyous" (Maryland Theatre Guide) experience with its unique blend of choreography and freestyle elements, "a stylistic smorgasbord" (New Yorker) representing the diverse experiences of the BIPOC communities of Los Angeles.

This residency event is offered in conjunction with Versa-Style Street Dance Company's February 15 performance at the Center for the Arts of Rooted Rhythms, a mixed repertory program of its most popular works, paying homage to street dance styles such as whacking, popping, and house dance, as well as a blend of Afro-Latin styles including salsa and West African.

When a fairy godmother goes rogue and plops copies of The Feminine Mystique in the laps of classic heroines, the damsels go on a quest to rewrite their stories and redefine "happily ever after." Once Upon a One More Time weaves 23 of Brittney Spears' smash singles into a fun and brilliant book by Jon Hartmere, culminating in a show that will appeal to groups and audiences of all ages!
