Frederick Douglass: Advocate for Equality
In this banner exhibition, viewers can learn about Douglass' escape from slavery, his work as an abolitionist, and his tireless fight for equality for all individuals in the Jim Crow era. Douglass' impact and his life are explored through his words, photographs, and documents from the Gilder Lehrman Collection.

The Civil War Defenses of Washington, D.C. and the Role of the United States Colored Troops
Historian Bryan Cheeseboro will discuss the building of the Civil War Defenses surrounding Washington, D.C. and the role of the United States Colored Troops in defending the nation's capital. He'll emphasize the early days of the Civil War defenses of Washington (April to July 1861).
