Feedback Requested for Five Proposed Transportation Projects

Did you know it can take five to 10 years for a capital transportation project to go from idea to completion? That means projects under construction now were being discussed as far back as 2014!
We have identified five new projects to develop over the next 10 years, and we need your feedback on whether these are the right priorities.
- Fairfax Circle Intersection Evaluation
- Main Street/Lyndhurst Dr/Trapp Road Intersection Concept Development
- Bicycle Route Wayfinding Plan + Implementation
- Vienna Metrorail Station North Side Improvements (with WMATA)
- Residential Sidewalk Feasibility
Please weigh in on whether these projects meet the community’s needs. Once the list of proposed projects is adopted in the Two-Year Transportation Program, high-level conceptual plans for each project will be developed. The community will have another opportunity to evaluate the projects before City Council votes to submit these projects for regional, state, and federal funding consideration.
Water Quality Project Starting at Mathy Park
The city is starting a project Oct. 16 to install a conserved open space best management practice (BMP) at Mathy Park, adjacent to Ratcliffe Park.
In addition to the conservation easement at Mathy Park, the city is constructing three gravel diaphragms, which treat water quality by filtering out sediment and pollutants, and reduce runoff velocity. The work, which will provide limited Chesapeake Bay credits, will be done in three phases:
- Fairfax Museum – Area 1 (Oct. 16-18)
- Ratcliffe Park – Area 2 (Oct. 21-23)
- 10324 Sager Avenue – Area 3 (Oct. 24-28)
There will be minimal land disturbance in each area. For questions and concerns, please contact project manager Ann Feeherry, by email at ann.feeherry@fairfaxva.gov or by phone at 703-273-6239.
