Council Reporter for the March 12 Meeting
The Council Reporter for the March 12 meeting includes staff reports, presentations, and video segments linked to agenda items. View the Reporter. Highlights of the meeting and work session are listed below.
- City Council will advertise a proposed real estate tax rate of $1.035 per $100 of assessed value, as recommended in the city manager’s FY 2025 proposed budget. The advertised real estate tax rate is the maximum rate that can be set when City Council adopts the FY 2025 budget on May 7.
- City Council authorized amending the contract with Stantec Consulting Services, Inc., to provide additional engineering services for the George T. Snyder Trail. Recently requested design modifications to the trail were not included in the original scope of services.
- City Council received an update on proposed trail projects and trail projects in progress, including the Pickett Road Connector Trail, Country Club Commons Connector Trail, Judicial Trail, George Snyder Trail, and George Snyder Extension.
- City Council heard a proposed plan on how to spend $115,565 in revenue from the $.05 plastic bag tax enacted Jan. 1, 2023. The state code dictates plastic bag tax revenues be appropriated for environmental clean-up, educational programs designed to reduce environmental waste, pollution and litter mitigation, and providing reusable bags to recipients of certain federal food support programs.
- City Council discussed charging a fee to use the electric vehicle charging stations at City Hall and Old Town Hall. These charging stations are currently free to the public. The proposed fee would help cover the cost of operations and maintenance of the chargers and ensure equitable access.
- City Council discussed the fiscal impact of converting 22 temporary positions to the equivalent of 15 full-time positions in the FY 2025 proposed budget. Staff recommended the conversion due to operational necessity, recruitment and retention challenges, and equity.
A city council meeting is slated for March 26. View the agenda (subject to change).
Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday nights in City Hall. Watch meetings live on Channel 12 (COX/Verizon) and online, or catch a replay at 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
