Work on this project began in 2018 when the city engaged a consulting engineer to develop a concept plan. The city received $21M in NVTA funding in 2019 for this project.

The concept planning suggested that the project focus on:

  • Spot widening
  • Implementing multimodal features to improve walking, biking, and access to bus stops; and
  • Consolidating driveways where possible.

Jermantown Road provides access to residential areas, two schools, multiple commercial locations, and connects to Fairfax County. Current conditions are challenging for some users, and accommodating future growth and changes will require improvements.

On May 9, the mayor and City Council held a work session on the project with the Transportation Division; click here to watch the work session. Also, you may visit the Meetings page to download related documents and information.
