2022 Real Estate Assessments Reflect Appreciable Growth
The City of Fairfax’s overall real property tax base grew 7.7% from 2021.
Excluding value added for commercial and residential new construction, total assessed value increased 6.3%. Residential assessments increased 8.8% and commercial assessments increased 2%.
For 2022, the average single-family property increased from approximately $541,500 to $589,000. Approximately 97% of residential property owners saw their assessed value increase while the remainder were unchanged or equalized.

Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults
Check your mail! You may have been selected to participate in a survey about the lifestyles of older adults in the Fairfax area. The Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults is being sent to randomly selected adults ages 50 and older. The survey includes questions about work, socializing and volunteering, as well as retirement, housing, and caregiving, and the use of community services like public transportation and senior centers.

Plastic Yard Waste Bags No Longer Accepted
Plastic bags are no longer accepted for curbside yard waste collection. Yard waste set out in plastic bags will be identified with a red tag to notify the occupant of the violation, and the material will be left on the curb.
