Park(ing) Day Returns Sept. 17
Fairfax City’s Office of Economic Development is partnering with Fair City Mall to host the 3rd Annual Park(ing) Day, a global event where parking spaces are transformed into temporary parks to play, create, and connect. The event will run 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17 at Fair City Mall, 9650 Main Street.
Fairfax City Mall business, Fairfax City offices, and George Mason University’s Dewberry School of Music Flute Ensemble will transform parking spaces into a pop-up park and pedestrian-friendly areas. Park(ing) Day will feature a garden installation made of pool noodles, musical performances, activities, giveaways, raffle drawings, and a touch-a-bus experience with the City’s CUE bus.

Recommendations on Confederate Iconography
The Connecting Fairfax City for All stakeholder advisory group presented recommendations to City Council during a public meeting on Sept. 9 at the Sherwood Community Center. Read their report and submit your feedback.

Old Lee Highway Open House, Sept. 30
Fairfax City transportation staff will share the revised, recommended preliminary plan for the Old Lee Highway multimodal improvements project during an open house from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 30 at the Sherwood Center, located at 3740 Old Lee Highway in Fairfax.
Three major changes were made to the plan based on community feedback and direction from City Council:
- No roundabout at Country Hill Drive
- Left turns added
- No impacts to St. Leo's Catholic Church

Rock the Block, Sept. 24
On Sept. 24, Rock the Block with Sudden M Pac and George Mason University. The event begins at 5:45 p.m. and will feature special Mason activities, including the annual Challenge Cup Cornhole game between city leadership and student government. Hear remarks by Mayor David Meyer and Mason’s president and student body president. Wear your Patriots gear, Mason alums!
