Welcome In!
We are excited to announce our Senior Center will open on:
Tuesday, September 7
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
Our fitness center will open a few weeks earlier on Monday, August 9th with limited hours, Monday-Friday, 8am-Noon.
You will also see some new and familiar faces of the staff members ready to welcome you back to the center.
Don't forget to than take advantage of the summer programs listed below.

The KENA SHRINE BAND, composed of 8 to 13 Musicians, performs a variety of music including: Golden Oldies, Polkas, Waltzes, Show Tunes, and Dixieland, Blues, Marches, and Patriotic selections.

This magazine includes adult and children's programs, special events, cultural arts, Senior Center information, parks maps, and more! The Parks and Rec Connected Magazine is published three times a year: Summer, Fall, and Winter/Spring.

Bocce
May has traditionally been our kickoff month to the senior Bocce season and this year has been no exception.
If you are interested in playing, show up at Green Acres Thursdays at 10am and find out more information from the group leader Chuck.

Please join me in welcoming Kathy Carter to the Parks and Recreation Department!
Kathy’s first day was July 1 in her new role as Senior Center Assistant Coordinator.
Kathy, who for 5 years was the trip chaperone and on call staff for the seniors, will now be involved in all the aspects of programming in the senior center and assisting with Adult and Senior classes.
Kathy will be working 30 hours per week M-F during senior center hours at Green Acres.
In her free time, she enjoys golf, oil painting, flower gardening and spending time with her family.

We had a crackerjack time marching in the 4th of July parade this year!
We had the spirit as Sam and Jeanette, this year's King and Queen, led us through the cheering crowds!
Senior Council Information
The Young at Heart Seniors’ Advisory Council members are volunteers who work as a group with the staff to enhance the programs and activities of the Fairfax City Senior Center. The Senior Council continues to work on behalf of the senior members and staff while our physical center remains closed.
2020/2021 Senior Center Advisory Members
Kim Chu, Sam Crumpler, Susan DiMaina, Pat Hyland, Jayne Jackson, Jay Lamb, Jeanette Mason, Pete Pollak, Sigrid Schipper, Charles Spasaro, and Sandy Moshos.
The Senior Council continues to meet virtually each month next meeting will be held virtually on August 17 at 1pm.
Election of New Senior Advisory Council Members
Due to the unusual circumstances created by Covid, the board has decided to extend the existing council positions for a few more months and tentatively hold an election in January 2022.

We hope you are occupying yourselves while we are in social isolation. Below are some ways to stay busy while at home socially distancing! |

- Walk around your neighborhood or trails (while practicing 6ft social distancing)
- Calling and chatting with your family, friends and neighbors
- Write letters to family & friends
- Journaling what’s going on now or memories from your past
- Get in touch with your artistic/crafty side
- Do some spring cleaning
- Have a spa day (facial, manicure, pedicure, soak in a tub of bubbles, salts, or baking soda)
- Plant seeds in a pot or garden (mindful of outdoor frost date);
- Read books or magazines
- Cooking and preparing healthful foods
- Put your favorite music on and dance!
