The City of Fairfax and the Independence Day Celebration Committee are excited to announce that the 55^th Annual Independence Day Celebration will be held this year as planned. This year’s theme is “One Flag. One Hand. One Heart.”

The parade and fireworks show will be held on separate days this year.

• Parade: The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, in Old Town Fairfax, rain or shine. The route begins at 4100 Chain Bridge Road, winding through downtown Fairfax, along Chain Bridge Road, Main Street, University Drive, and Armstrong Street. Among the highlights of this year’s parade are nine high school marching bands and many popular balloons, themed floats, and entertaining clowns. 
• Fireworks: The fireworks festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, at the Fairfax High School stadium (3501 Lion Run), with live music from the band ‘70s Flashback. The fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. The rain date for the fireworks is July 5.

“Neighbors Together for Equity and Inclusion”

Panelists include Karla Bruce, chief equity officer, Fairfax County; Dr. Wendi Manuel-Scott, co-chair, George Mason University’s Anti-Racism Inclusive Excellence Task Force; and Gretchen Bulova, director, Office of Historic Alexandria, and co-chair of Alexandria’s Remembrance Project.

The city has developed a list of specific projects to submit for regional, state, and federal funding over the next two years. These projects include bicycle, pedestrian, trail, transit, intersection, and roadway improvements. Please review the proposed projects and provide feedback.

Join us at the first Kamp Washington Small Area Plan public meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9. 

Small Area Plans are neighborhood-level plans intended to provide the City with guidance on each of its five Activity Centers defined in the 2035 Comprehensive Plan. They provide more specific guidance for each Activity Center, including desired mix of uses, residential density, building density, design aesthetic, street locations, multimodal connections, infrastructure improvements, parking, and open space.
