Robotics going strong in PWCS
Record number of teams represented at the VEX State Championship
More than half of the elementary and high school teams, and more than two-thirds of the middle school teams competing in the annual VEX State Championship were from PWCS. Congratulations to the winning teams.
Northern Virginia's Regional SeaPerch Challenge showcases underwater robots in action
Over 350 students on 60 school teams from Prince William County faced off in the PWCS Aquatics Center. Students maneuvered remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs) in underwater challenges, including obstacle courses and contests that tested recovery and collaboration.
The eight top-scoring teams are advancing to the International SeaPerch Challenge on June 4, at the University of Maryland, where they will compete against more than 100 teams from around the world.

PWCS offers summer academic and enrichment opportunities for students in grades K-12. These summer offerings help mitigate summer learning loss and prepare students for future learning experiences, which ultimately leads to improved student achievement.
PWCS Summer School program students will participate in person, five days a week. The Summer School Academy programs will offer a virtual option for grades K-8.

Marumsco Hills Elementary School art project ties in science lessons
For Youth Art Month/National Arts Education Month, first-grade students at Marumsco Hills Elementary School used the work of Keith Haring, an American artist, to learn about human anatomy. The art project allowed students to use fine motor skills and helped lay the foundation for them to use creative problem solving when dealing with tasks.
Penn Elementary School students collect donations for Prince William County Animal Shelter
After receiving donations from students, representatives from the Prince William County Animal Shelter visited Penn Elementary School to talk about their work helping animals. Read more.

Student creativity shines during Neabsco Elementary School’s Cardboard Challenge

Forest Park High School's Richard Martinez returns to teaching roots to help students make math connections
Math can be a difficult subject for many, even more so when it is not being taught in the language you are most comfortable speaking. Forest Park High School Principal Richard Martinez noticed a need and used his background as a math teacher, and his skills as a bilingual speaker, to join student tutors in teaching math concepts in Spanish.
Application deadline extended for rising juniors and seniors interested in serving as a School Board student representative
The School Board seeks two student representatives and an alternate to provide non-voting input and insight for the 2022-23 school year. Rising juniors and seniors are eligible to apply.
The deadline to apply has been extended to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022.

Meet Andrew Marrero, Bristow Run Elementary School music teacher
Andrew Marrero always enjoyed music as a child but developed a deeper love for music as a student at Bristow Run Elementary School. Now Marrero is teaching music at Bristow Run Elementary and instilling the love of music in the next generation.
