Colgan High School girls volleyball team brings home state title
Congratulations to the Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School girls volleyball team for winning the Virginia Class 6 state championship. This is Colgan High School's first state championship win since it opened in 2016 and the first volleyball state title for Prince William County Public Schools in 18 years.

Meet Oakley, the therapy dog bringing smiles to students' faces at Bull Run Middle School
Bull Run Middle School has a therapy dog three days a week as one of the school's social and emotional health-based initiatives. Oakley, a two-year-old labradoodle, visits students in their classroom or the school's Wellness Lounge, where they can then read, pet, or play games with her.
"It allows the students to de-stress but to also connect with the staff and school counselors in a positive way," said Amy Shelton, Bull Run Middle's director of school counseling.

Marshall Elementary School students slime principals after outstanding performance in Read-A-Thon
During Marshall Elementary School's two-week Read-A-Thon, one of the annual enrichment activities sponsored by the Parent Teacher Organization, students logged over 250,000 minutes of reading and raised nearly $40,000. As a reward, students earned the opportunity to slime the principals.

PWCS is launching the “Say Something” Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS) designed specifically for students in grades 6-12 and staff to report any type of serious or potentially violent concerns of unsafe behavior or threats of harm to self or others.

Naviance Student is a digital tool that personalizes and simplifies the college and career planning process for students. Families of middle and high school students are invited to attend webinars to learn how students use Naviance to explore careers, research education options beyond high school, and apply for colleges. Learn about the Special Education process and supports available to parents on December 14

Join us at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14. for "Overview of the Special Education Process and the Supports Available to Parents." Families will learn what to do if they suspect their child has a disability or if they have questions about their child's Individualized Education Program (IEP). They will also receive information about the different programs within special education as well as the resources and supports available to parents.

Meet Anna Houseworth, new principal of Ashland Elementary School
Anna Houseworth recently began her new role as principal of Ashland Elementary School. Houseworth began her career in PWCS as a teacher in 2006, and most recently served as an assistant principal at Signal Hill Elementary School.
"One of the reasons I became a principal was because I wanted to make a positive impact on every child," said Houseworth. "I want kids to have all the opportunities open to them."
