PWCS celebrates Red Ribbon Week 2021
Throughout the week, students and staff are participating in Red Ribbon Week, the nation's oldest and largest drug prevention program. From signing a drug-free pledge to activities that bring awareness about the dangers of drugs, PWCS is committed to developing students who make healthy and safe choices.

Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction, PWCS Superintendent visit Porter Traditional School to celebrate National Blue Ribbon School award
Following its designation as a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School, Porter Traditional School welcomed Dr. James F. Lane, Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Dr. LaTanya D. McDade, PWCS Superintendent of Schools, for a visit.
“One of the things I’m most proud of about Porter Traditional is the focus that they’ve had on closing achievement gaps, in addition to their high performance for all students,” said Dr. Lane. “I just wanted to come be here in person and see it for myself about what makes Porter so magical.”

Important dates to note
Friday, October 29 is the end of the first grading period.
There is no school for all students on Monday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 2. In addition, all PWCS schools and offices will be closed in observance of holidays on Thursday, November 4 and Thursday, November 11.

Attention seniors and parents: Test score opt-out forms available online
According to the Virginia Department of Education's "Regulations Governing Secondary School Transcripts," local school divisions must have a student's test record, including at least the highest score earned on college performance-related standardized tests like the SAT and ACT, on the student's secondary school transcript.
Parents and guardians may elect in writing to have their child's college entrance test score excluded from the student transcript (opt-out).

Amazon Web Services Girls' Tech Day, Mission Possible, to be held virtually on November 13

Girls and young women, ages 8-24, are invited to register for the 2021 AWS Girls' Tech Day. This virtual event will take you on your very own space mission, and you'll experience an all-star lineup of speakers, hands-on learning sessions, and fun activities.
