Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in PWCS
Hispanic Heritage Month is observed September 15 - October 15, and schools across the division are celebrating the contributions and impact Hispanic Americans have had on the country.
Melonie Yielding and Michelle Stephenson, librarians at Fred M. Lynn Middle school, worked together to curate a collection of books by and about Hispanic countries, cultures, and people.
“Students need to see themselves in the books they read,” shared Yielding. “They also need to see what other people’s lives are like.” Students are enjoying the collection, which Yielding and Stephenson continue to update and add to as new books come in.

Potomac High School, Saunders Middle School share examples of helping students get connected
School connectedness has not only shown to have positive effects on academic achievement, but it also gives students the belief that adults and peers in the school care about them. School-led clubs or organizations are a great way for families and schools to partner to increase a student's connection to their school. School activities create a positive place for students to build relationships, support other peers, and connect with school staff.
