Woodbridge High School strings teacher finds her rhythm in Global Cello Project
Taryn Wood, strings teacher at Woodbridge High School, joined the Global Cello Project and gained valuable skills and knowledge to bring back into her classroom and used this experience to share music with the Woodbridge community. Read more.

Hylton High School's boy soccer team honored at State Capitol
C.D. Hylton High School’s boys soccer team won the 2020-21 Virginia High School League Class 6 championship by defeating Yorktown, 3-2. This was Hylton High's first soccer state championship since 1999.
The team's achievement was noticed by VA Delegate Elizabeth Guzman (HR-31). Guzman invited the team to Richmond to tour the State Capitol. She also read a House Resolution in the House Chambers congratulating the team on its success.

This past summer, Alessia Matory, ninth grader at Woodbridge High School, and Zoe Mendis, ninth-grade student at Forest Park High School, worked with their former gifted education teacher at Lake Ridge Middle School, on a project with National Public Radio. Read more.

Meet Catherine Porter-Lucas, new PWCS associate superintendent of middle schools
Catherine Porter-Lucas recently stepped into the role of an associate superintendent of middle schools for Prince William County Public Schools. This position was created in July 2021 and will share responsibilities with fellow associate superintendent of middle schools, Bill Bixby.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month #BeThe1To Raise Awareness
Suicide Prevention is a community effort involving school personnel, families, and students. PWCS is partnering with the Virginia Department of Education and National Prevention Lifeline in recognizing September as National Suicide Prevention Month.
The shared messaging this year is #BeThe1To, and each week in September has a theme to promote specific elements of Suicide Prevention.
The first step in helping those around you who may be struggling is to #BeThe1To Ask.

Pay your children’s school fees online
New, easy way to pay for club dues, instrument rental, field trips, and other student fees online

PWCS is excited to announce our new online payment system that lets parents pay their children’s school fees through a secure online website and will save time, money, and paper.
Go to the PWCS Student Quick Pay webpage. With a few simple clicks, parents can view assessed fees, any outstanding balances, add optional fees, and pay fees for all of their children at multiple schools in a single transaction. Payments can be made by Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard, and MasterCard Debit.
You can use these instructions (PDF) to create your parent account and link your student’s account(s). Please email creditcard@pwcs.edu if you need assistance with account setup and using the system. For general information about fees, please contact your child’s school.

High school students and their parents can visit the College and Career Planning Webpage to find information about the fall college fairs, as well as financial aid nights, transcript requests, and other resources to assist with planning for post-graduation education.
Meet Nikki Steptoe-Coleman, new principal of Rockledge Elementary School
Though Nikki Steptoe-Coleman is new to PWCS as a principal, she is no stranger to Rockledge Elementary School as two of her nieces are former students of the school she now leads. Steptoe-Coleman was a school administrator for Fairfax County Public Schools and has had extensive experience as an instructional specialist for students with autism and a special education teacher.
Reminder: Schools and offices will be closed Friday, September 3, through Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
